"We loved Upper Rooms. As a note to anyone staying here, be sure to contact owner at least 24 hours in advance to get check in information. Our room was clean and spacious with comfortable beds and pillows and a nice little balcony overlooking the marina. We found food within walking distance and the morning breakfast was satisfying."
"We did a one night stop driving in and parking is at a premium on the street. Very high quality as new condition place with some English but not much.
Be carefully when booking the rooms they have 4 and it looked like some are shared bathroom ,the one we had appeared private but could be accessed from the shared breakfast area . Happy to stay again as long as we are fit enough to climb stairs off the street to the rooms."

We took the best room comprised of a large bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, living room, and media room. All of those were a decent size so it felt like living in your apartment. "This is our third time at Mari del Sud in the past six years, and unfortunately, we’ve noticed it’s slowly declining. It’s a pity, because the resort has such great potential, so close to the sea and the beautiful Sabbie Nere beach and head a beautiful swimming pool.
One major downside is the lack of a transfer service from the harbor to the hotel. We had the service during previous stays, and most hotels and resorts on the island of Vulcano still offer it. Although the receptionist said the hotel is walkable, I wouldn’t recommend it if you're traveling with elderly people, as I was. We ended up having to call a taxi for both directions, which cost €15 each way.
Breakfast is good and the staff do their best, but the number of waiters is insufficient for the volume of guests. The swimming pool opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m., so if you're an early riser or looking to unwind after an excursion, it’s disappointing to find the pool closed.
Housekeeping cleans the rooms daily, which is appreciated, though again the limited number of staff means your room might be serviced late in the day, often when you're back for a siesta. I really hope Mari del Sud will go back being the resort everybody used to love."
