Great place

This is a great place to stay in South Bend if you’re on a budget but want something comfortable and homey. The rooms are nice and the historic aspect of the house is great. It is also nice to have a kitchen to use, plus mini fridges in the room.

I liked the house, very clean, safe, interesting and comfortable. The check in instructions were written for someone who was familiar with the house and rooms. The very nice guest in room #7 helped a lot. Cassandra was very good, and nice.

I can't say enough nice things about our stay in room #7 at the Avanti House. This is an old house, and with that comes both the charm and quirks of an older home. The couple who manage it do an amazing job keeping it up, and everything from the architectural details to the tributes to a classic car legacy make this such a charming place to stay. The location was an easy walk to so many wonderful restaurants and landmarks around South Bend, and getting to Notre Dame was a breeze. I know where I'll be staying when I come to visit my baby for her freshman year next fall!

Great stay!

Stayed in The Loft at 131 Chapin. Code access worked perfectly. Extremely clean. We were happy to have a decent sized refrigerator to keep tailgate food cold. Loved having a Keurig in the room and microwave. We had everything we needed in this spacious and charming loft. Loved it.

If you are looking for a nice place to sleep, this is the place for you. They have a kitchen and a bathroom that are quite small but do their job. It’s clearly an older house, but is really well maintained. Everything was clearly labeled and it’s easy to find your room. Only thing is you have to deal with other people, so if you are expecting a house to yourself you would be wrong.

Funky but not my thing

Interesting place. Kind of funky and eclectic. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's house. The floors were creaky and I had a half bath off of my room with a shared full bath. I wasn't crazy about the shared full bath option, my room was kind of interesting and had lots of posters of the Studebaker sky hawk. I was pretty comfortable, but did not have a TV in my room which I kind of missed. Glad I only had one night there.

Our room was a bit run down with paper peeling off the walls. At first glance the inside looked very nice with old furnishings but it was not quite what we were expecting. Guess the description guesthouse should have clued us in. We never did find the shower. No TV in the room. Wifi fine. Bed was comfortable. The AC did not cool our room down very well.

The house was quite large and easy to maneuver. No stove but there is a hot plate, microwave, and toaster oven in the kitchen. Not a lot of cookware, bowls, etc. but enough to make due. I like to cook so that was a little disappointing but like I said, it was sufficient to make due. It would be nice if there were a recliner and couch in the living room area to make it more comfy. There is a small love seat and chair. Not a place to sit back and watch tv. My room was lovely. Nice comfy bed and a desk for working at. The full bath was adequate. Really cool stuff around the house if you like the Avanti history. Very clean and owner was very responsive to any requests made. I would definitely plan to stay again. I felt safe during my stay as a single lady.

The property was as described. It had a lot of memorabilia related to the Avanti. There were simple selections for a self serve breakfast and snacks. There was a medium size fridge in our room. The queen bed was very saggy in the center. My husband slept there. I slept in the twin bed which was better, but I had air blowing on my face everytime the ac kicked on with no way to adjust the vent. There was a nice sitting room available.

Such an interesting place!

It's a little "old-fashioned boarding house" mixed with AirBnB, but it really is worth a stay in this historic house, turned hotel. It's not a traditional hotel, with a check-in desk and staff in-house, and it's an old house with smallish bedrooms, shared bathroom facilities, and creaky wooden floors and stairs. I thought it was charming enough to make up for it. The house is chocked-full of memorbilia for the Studebaker Avanti automobile - advertisements, new articles, art, models, photographs. An irreplaceable collection. Located across the street from the Studebaker museum and within walking distance of the South Bend Cubs baseball field and some restaurants and breweries.

The theme of the house was very neat with the old car collectibles. Very easy to enter & leave, not too far from downtown. Good for visiting South Bend, I would definitely book again.
