The front desk attendant was very kind and provided us with additional fans, but unfortunately they didn’t make much of a difference. After traveling for over 10 hours, we were really looking forward to getting some rest, so it was a disappointing and uncomfortable way to start our trip."

"Stayed at Elan Hotel before continuing on to the Frankfurt Airport the next morning. Rooms and public areas are very basic but very clean. Simple breakfast offering. Friendly staff. Easy parking. Overall a very good value for the money. Cannot beat the location, directly by autobahn exit and railway station. 45 minutes by car to the Frankfurt airport. McDonald's that is open 24/7/365 is next door. KFC walking distance."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Solms?
The best area to stay in Solms is generally in the immediate vicinity of Braunfels Castle, particularly in the town of Braunfels itself, or in the more rural areas surrounding Solms for a peaceful retreat.

Braunfels is the main attraction in the Solms region, and staying nearby offers the most convenience. The town centre, with its historic market square and half-timbered houses, is very walkable and provides direct access to the castle grounds. You'll find a selection of local eateries and shops within a short stroll.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate Braunfels. Many hotels offer views of the castle, and the cobbled streets make for pleasant evening walks. You're also well-placed for exploring the castle's interiors and gardens, providing a memorable experience.

For travellers seeking a quiet countryside escape, the areas just outside the town centres of Solms and Braunfels offer a good option. Here, you'll find hotels and guesthouses located amongst forests and rolling hills, providing a tranquil setting.
When is the best time to go to Solms?
The best time to visit Solms is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September.

During this period, the weather is generally warm and pleasant, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the Lahn-Dill-Kreis region. You'll find the countryside lush and green, superb for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling along the Lahn River. The longer daylight hours also allow for more extensive sightseeing.

Couples looking for a relaxing getaway will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy boat trips on the Lahn or leisurely strolls through the historic parts of Solms-Oberndorf, perhaps visiting Burg Hohensolms without the chill of colder months. The warmer weather makes dining al fresco a lovely option, with many local restaurants offering outdoor seating.

Families travelling with children will find the summer months particularly convenient for visiting attractions like the nearby Tierpark Herborn or experimenting at the Mathematikum in Giessen, as the weather won't restrict indoor or outdoor plans.
