Whatever the history of Château de la Bainerie it matters not. Those currently in charge of looking after and managing this Château clearly do not have the skills, motivation or mindset to do a good job."

"The host was wonderful, really helpful, booking a restaurant for us, and checking that we had what we needed. The kitchen is fine but is a galley and cramped for more than two people at a time. Facilities there are OK and all the basics are there. House was clean and well equipped and the beds were comfortable "

"Probably the best holiday rental we’ve ever stayed in. A real home from home. Hot tub/jacuzzi perfect, swimming pool perfect. Very private and very comfortable. We made full use of the outside kitchen. A very well equipped property. Our hosts were wonderful, we had problems with our car on the drive to the accommodation and they were fantastic helping us communicate with the garage. Nothing was too much trouble. Very informative with suggestions of places to visit and restaurants to try. Thank you for making our holiday very special. "

"Really peaceful, lovely rooms and a warm welcome. Really good continental breakfast. There was even a kettle and decent teabags! This hotel is excellent value for money. Immaculately clean, lovely bathrooms. The rooms were spacious and comfortable - modern rooms but in keeping with the traditional rustic building. The hotel has an honesty bar where you can get a beer (but not much else) although there's no drinks or facilities to make bake a drink in the rooms. The village itself is very quiet - nothing to do apart from go for a walk. The next village along, Brulon, had a few more restaurants/cafes. We ate in the restaurant next to the hotel - worth booking ahead as it didn't look like they did walk-ins. The hotel booked us a table the day before we arrived. We would definitely stay here again and wish we'd stayed more than one night - if you're looking for a comfortable, peaceful overnight stopover, this hotel is perfect."

"Our night at the Chateau had to be the single most memorable night of our trip. I loved it; my other half was a bit freaked by it all. The property is a long way from anywhere down a stone road. The wildlife is incredible (I’ve never heard an all-night frog chorus before and the deer roam freely through the meadows). It is basically a private house offering rooms and a basic breakfast- not a hotel… it’s very much like taking an Air BnB room. The owner is a character but speaks virtually no English- this isn’t for you if you’re not able to get by in French. The house is unique, and speaks of grandeur in the way that old piles do. It felt like spending the night in a National Trust Manor House before they’ve done it up. If you want a night in deepest Anjou where you’re left to yourself to explore a chateau and can sit drinking wine under a tree with a cat purring on your lap, this is worth a go. If you’ve got young kids, you can’t speak much French or have mobility issues (there’s a spiral staircase), stay somewhere else. "
