Charming dog-friendly lakefront cottage with private dock & community beach
10/10 Excellent
"Just about any location on Lake Winnipesaukee is wonderful in magical, and we certainly prefer your authentic, uninsulated, wood frame lakefront cabins and cottages. This property tucked in Smith Cove near West Alton fits that description. We had some issues that were relatively minor, including overly bright non-dimmable LED lightbulbs with no shades, fortunately Vacasa was quick and professional in responding. At the dining table, there are no real dining room chairs, just a couple of easy chairs that are not suited for dining purposes. Also, the walls in the bedroom were covered with framed family photos, which was offputting. We removed them for the duration of our weeklong stay, safely tucked on the floor in the living room. The view from the front sun porch and dock is spectacular, this alone made it worthwhile. We use the barbecue for a few meals, that was definitely handy. It’s a nice walk around the area on the dirt road, always fun to see what neighbors are doing to their properties, it was a mix of old style and brand new giant houses, which I think Are too much but that’s a whole separate conversation. We would consider returning, the one big factor being orientation: from the Tuftonboro side of the lake the sunset views are spectacular, in Smith Cove the sun pretty much disappears by 2 PM this time of year, being early to mid September. Overall, a good value."
"Property and location were great. Well worth staying. Having a dock right outside your door was fantastic and made it easy to get out on the water each morning and closing the boat up for the night (while drinking a cheeky beer) just as easy. The boat launch on site that is shared with the houses on Interlaken as well the surrounding Smith Point neighbors was a little tricky. There is a large rock restricting the entrance to the water and two large rocks in the water, which meant the trailer had limited access. There are also shallow rocks in the water near the launch that our propeller caught on. Hopefully the rocks could be removed to make it a much easier prospect for launching an inboard boat (larger draft than an outboard or jet ski). That being said in the future if we were to stay at the property or one of the others on site, we would launch at the Alton Bay site and boat up to property."
Breathtaking Mountain Views across Lake Winnipesaukee- Boat Access Only

"I was searching for a quiet, low key vacation to enjoy with my children and definitely found the perfect place. Being our first time renting a house that was only accessible by boat we weren’t sure what to expect. The house is laid out very well for the modest footprint and never felt crowded even when we had some additional guests. The children spent hours swimming and fishing around the dock with plenty of sunfish and small bass to keep them entertained. The dock height was a little too high for my small runabout boat so I would definitely recommend bringing a couple extra fenders. Passing boats tend to send a bit of rolling wake by the time it reaches the island. Weirs Beach, Alton, and Wolfeboro are all a pleasant cruise away and offer nice restaurants and a change of scenery. Lastly, on the recommendation of the host Kevin I launched from the town marina in Gilford. It’s a well run ramp with an attendant during the day and plenty of parking right next to the Marine Patrol Station. Overall an amazing place to spend a week!"

"From the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be a wonderful vacation for our family. Not only was the home well stocked and very convenient. It had the most beautiful views that I can remember. Bob and Kathy… We will definitely be back to Lake Winnipesaukee next year! Our friends came with their boat and took us around the lake, which was another highlight of our stay. We would recommend your home to our good friends in Pensacola, Florida. Thank you again for making everything so pleasant and stocking with the most needed items that we may have forgotten… Lol!R/Linda Bleau"
