I had high expectations that were exceeded. The multi course meal designed to reflect the flavours and food from the area was exceptional. The room itself was very impressive too with a comfy bed and hot bath prepared for check in. Staff were very friendly and accomodating also. The surrounding area is full of unique craft shops and interesting places. Definitely have a night here at least in your travels

Cool space inside a café. Lovely staff to welcome and fairness us. Great supermarket over the road and short walk to awesome cherry blossom area.

Beautiful hotel! Well conserved for its age. Very original Japanese experience. Great staff, they really get out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Fantastic experience

This very new seeming property was excellent and I'd certainly choose it again for another stay at Besshoonsen. Room was and clean relatively spacious, the three private spas worked well (although the hotel was not full when I stayed). Meals were delicious, dinner and breakfast, and sensible quantities. If you're thinking of an overnight here a) you should come - it is a lovely old town and b) this place has your back for a bit of onsen magic while you are here.

Great experience, beautiful old building and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Perfectly located on Nakamachi-dori and close to all attractions, including Matsumoto Castle, and plenty of amazing food nearby. A memorable and unique, but all too brief stay, definitely one of the hilights of my time in Matsumoto.

Lovely place to stay. It's a bit out of town but they run a free bus into town so it's no problem at all.

My new favourite hotel in Matsumoto. Beautiful Japanese style rooms, gorgeous public baths which are tattoo friendly (if covered by plaster given out at reception), beautiful decor, free ice creams, yokult, close to station, would stay here again!

Best family hotel!! Amazing service and true Japanese experience. Totally loved it!!

We booked the room with private onsen for three nights and that's so relaxing. The 9 course dinners (Japanese cuisine) (half board) were superb and have certainly exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and quantity. Breakfasts are different every morning too. The cost may be considered high but it's worth it. Not a lot of staff can speak English but should be able to get by. The lady night manager was not particularly friendly but overall the atmosphere was very professional. Highly...

Clean, spacious, close to train station. Free drink at happy hour and late free supper were a bonus. Very nice hotel. Firm bed.

We had an excellent 2 night stay at Tamaya. We were collected and dropped off at Bessho Onsen train Station. All staff were wonderfully helpful despite our lack of Japanese language. The meals were fantastic and varied (different meals for breakfast and dinner each day). Our room was very comfortable with Western beds and a seating area. We spent a day exploring temples in the area- note that very few shops, cafes or restaurants were open on a Monday.

Easy to park. Wife would give it 4 stars. 6 yr old would give 5 stars for the rock climbing wall. No lift for 2nd floor rooms and would have life more space to open suitcases but overall nice place to stay.

A beautiful place to stay.

Really nice clean modern hotel, an easy stay for a family of 4 with two young children. We had an amazing view of the castle from our room. We enjoyed the walk to the hotel from the station. We decided to eat breakfast at the hotel and it was fine. Lots of sights and dinner options in easy walking distance. Will definately return next time.
