"A very comfortable and well furnished cottage. We were able to cook good meals on an excellent gas range although there are a few bits and pieces of cutlery/crockery that would have made it even better. This was the fifth time we have stayed in this cottage; it is a great place to stay if you want to see many places in the area. We even visited Newcastle (easy if you use 'park and metro') and as far as Kelso in Scotland to see Floors Castle."

"Beautiful area, the hotel was cold and no way to turn on the radiatorsTV didn’t work in our room, Tern,,but the only stayed overnight. The restaurant staff were very stressed as it was very busy and impatient customers were rude to them. Sad to witness"

"Disappointing, awaiting new management. Searched hotels.com for rooms with breakfast and booked The Plough. Confirmation revealed no breakfast included. In fact, no food was being served while we were there. Only one member of staff on duty to greet guests between answering phone and serving the bar. Helped with some of our luggage but had to manage most of it ourselves to top floor rooms, no lift. Rooms nice with clean and comfy bed, but no milk with the tea making tray, no information pack, no contact for any issues. No milk at all available, even with the coffee machine behind the bar. A staff member bought milk for guests when he finished his shift. We found other places to dine but as the bar at The Plough closed at 9pm, front door access was locked and we had to come back in via the fire escape. For breakfast we had to leave that way too as the doors were locked until the bar opened. Speaking to the cleaner, we found that rooms are not serviced unless you leave a paper hanger on the door. No hanger or explanation was in our rooms. The check out process was unstaffed, we had to leave our keys in the door which seems insecure. An unusual set up, desperately in need of help from Alex Pollizzi. I hope the new management reopens the kitchens, and includes some form of breakfast offering. They should establish a more efficient and secure check in system. The staff try hard, but lack the support and guidance to present themselves as a welcoming and effective team."

"I find stairs very difficult and we were on the third floor. NOT much fun. as most of the other visitors were as old is not older than me I guess i was not the only one. They were unable to offer a change of room as they said they were full. However we never saw another soul on the corridor we were in and linen outside the door of two rooms remained there for the whole of our stay, we don't think we had any neighbours! It can't be easy in a listed building that cannot have lifts. the walk in showe was wonderful The staff looked after us very well and despite the large numbers of dinner guests the food was very good. great menu choice and hot. I needed ice for my Champagne picnic and they gave me lots without question. we would, without question, stay again."

"The inn is in a good place for a base, breakfast was ok but a healthier option would be a nice change. Rooms are fine but avoid room 1 as it backs onto female toilets of the bar. and you can hear the door banging too and the aircon quite loudly in the room ..also the cleaners at 5:30 ….but overall it’s a convenient place to stay and explore the coast"

"The pictures on the site do not represent the reality of this hotel. It’s currently very run down and in need of lots of work. We stayed for 3 nights, we only had 3 towels and although we asked for more twice, were not given any and they weren’t changed during our stay. The bathroom looked new but unfinished. There was nowhere to put shampoo etc. in the shower, the floor was slippy (I bought a rubber mat for them) the toilet flush was dodgy and neither the fan or light above the mirror worked. The breakfast was dodgy and the public areas really shabby. Shame really it could be really special. I can’t recommend it and we won’t return."
