This hotel was situated in a very convenient area for us to visit the dockyard, and have a good choice of where to eat"

"Fantastic! Six stars. It feels like a yacht club that became a hotel. Essentially, that is what happened. It was a Navy Hotel/Officer's club that opened to the public. Just steps away from the Portsmouth Harbour train station and the historic dockyard. If you are even mildly into boats or boating, this place will fascinate you. From the minute you walk in, you'll be greeted by a history dating back hundreds of years. The walls will echo British sailing history at its proudest. Great, friendly staff. Nice bar. Good restaurant. In room coffee maker complete with shortbread. Small, clean pool. Safe. Quiet. Great museum and pubs a few feet away. Book it! A couple of cons: (Didn't effect my stay). The place could use a tiny bit of updating. Carpets are a bit old & warn. The west wing could use some paint. The rooms were not like your typical Holiday Inn. Ours had 3 single beds and 2 bunks in another room. Fun. So Navy! We didn't mind. "
