"We booked the triple bedroom and the room is huge. Beds were comfortable. There were 3 onsen in the hotel, pretty good but a little old. In fact this hotel feels a little old but overall it is still good, a traditional Japanese ryokan feel. The checking in was a little inefficient as we waited for a while until our turn to be brought to the room. Breakfast was a little chaotic, we were told that the breakfast buffet start at 650am-8am but at 7+am we were still queueing for table. Feel too early and being rushed to start the day. They have shuttle bus from the train station to the hotel, journey just 1-2 mins. Else it is also walkable like 5 mins. "

8/10 Good
"Breakfast was included as well as the onsen. Breakfast was very good and had a variety of Japanese and western breakfast foods. Our room was exceptionally large for Japan. Onsen was very clean and never felt crowded. It was close enough to walk to Takayama station but a little far to walk to the older part of town where most the shops and activities for Takayama Matsuri were being held- however a taxi to the old town was only 1000 yen one way. "
"Beautiful location and room in rustic Japanese buildings, and excellent kaiseki dinner. We loved the river right outside and enjoyed our stay.
Unfortunately our room was rather infested with stink bugs and the staff was unresponsive when we reached out around 10pm for assistance. I am familiar with stink bugs entering buildings in Japan during this time of year (and have experienced it at other ryokans as well) however after removing nearly 40 of them from our unit during our 1 night stay I think it’s fair to say this property needs to address the problem."
"The BOSENKAN was a great experience. We really enjoyed the Onsen, even though it was our very first experience. The food was traditional, and there were a lot of new tastes for us which was nice.
We were surprised by the large number of non-native workers there were. It did make understanding them difficult, and we felt it was less authentic. But we still enjoyed our stay! We will miss Mizuki-chan!"
