About this property
Sea Ranch dog-friendly studio cabin with hot tub in the redwoods
Summary:
Tucked at the edge of the redwood forest with a glimpse of the water through the trees, this original walk-in cabin keeps its redwood character intact. The deck hot tub is made for two, the custom outdoor propane grill suits real cooks, and the quiet neighborhood means all you hear is the forest. Dog-friendly studio sleeps 4.
The Space:
Nestled at the edge of the Redwood forest with a view of the ocean through the trees, you'll enjoy a peaceful rest in the heart of The Sea Ranch. The home has kept its character intact, with original redwood finishes and efficient cabin layout. Spend your morning sipping coffee, catching a glimpse of the water through the trees and listening to the forest come alive. Start with an early morning hot tub or breakfast on the deck. Cabin 55 features a full kitchen with a dishwasher and outdoor propane grill custom outfitted for those who love to cook. The hot tub on the deck is made for two. This is the perfect place for a couple to kick back and enjoy all that The Sea Ranch, the coastal mountains and the Northern California coast have to offer. The Walk-In Cabin neighborhood is so quiet and private it only takes moments to realize all you can hear is the ocean, the wind in the redwoods, songbirds and an occasional turkey.
The Walk-In Cabins sit close to hiking trails, the Ohlsen Recreation Center, Stengel Beach, and The Sea Ranch Golf Links, but are private and serenely scattered in the Redwoods. Truly the epitome of “Living with the Land'. More outdoor and cultural activities can be found south and north of The Sea Ranch along the coast, such as the Arena Theater, the B Bryan Wildlife Preserve, Fort Ross State Historic Park, and Point Arena Light House. Gualala offers groceries, art galleries, and restaurants. With over Sea Ranch's 50 miles of trails, guests can hike deep into the redwoods, out along the bluff overlooking the ocean, or picnic at the hot spot on the Gualala River. Enjoy a round of golf at the Scottish style, 18-hole course, or a tennis match at one of six courts. For families with children, the Children’s Environmental Play Park offers a wide range of activities. With access to all three shared recreation centers, you can relax in the pools, use the saunas, play basketball, pickleball or volleyball. Guests with a dog will want to check out the dog park on Deerfield Rd. It has a large fenced-in area covered in wood chips, with plenty of toys, water, and shade to share a wild run and romp! Mind the 6’ leash law elsewhere on the Ranch. You’re sure to meet many friendly local dog owners.

This home welcomes up to 1 dog -- the yard and nearby trails are ready for your pup. You can load and unload in front of the cabin. Longer parking is the paved lot on Pine Meadow, a short walk down the road. Detailed check-in instructions, including the door code, will be provided prior to your arrival. As a guest, you also have access to Sea Ranch community amenities including the pools, tennis courts, and miles of trails. A recreation pass will be provided.
The Neighborhood:
Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (a short 4-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (7-minute walk), Black Point headland trails (2-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. Stock up in Gualala, just 10 minutes north, where you'll find grocery stores, restaurants, a hardware store, and gas. Bodega Bay is a beautiful drive for fresh seafood.
Getting Around:
Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.
Other Things to Note:
Parking allowed in front of the cabin for loading and unloading only. For long-term parking, there's a paved parking area on Pine Meadow, just a short walk down the road.
Children under eight not recommended (bunk beds over the stairs, and the walk back from the Pine Meadow lot is also stairs) High-speed Wi-Fi provided allows you to stream your favorite shows and movies on your laptop or the 42” Smart TV.
Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.
Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.
Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.
Welcome to bring 1 dog (up to 50 lbs.). Please keep your dog on a leash on trails and clean up after them.

The kitchen is very well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans, though we mainly used the grill. It’s a very cozy cabin, in a beautiful setting, and we would come back again. We made use of the Ohlson and Del Mar pools, which are both great facilities. You will have to park your car down the hill, as there’s no parking directly in front of the cabin (but you can unload/load stuff from your car). This is in the description (walk-in cabin) but I missed that detail, and might be difficult to manage if you have mobility issues, and want to make that apparent. There was a note in the agreement about no refunds for finding the occasional mouse/pests because it’s in a rural area. We did find a mouse, and used the mousetrap we found under the sink to remove it. Might be a deal breaker for some, but it wasn’t for us.

Great Cozy Retreat!
Cabin 55 was clean and very comfortable, with a nice slice of pacific view and fantastic setting. The ‘walk in’ cabins at Sea Ranch are unique in design and location; literally in a beautiful redwood forest! These cabins and Sea Ranch never disappoint!
The cabin is so cozy and perfect for a couple or a family with 2 children. The skylight over the master bed is incredible because through it you can see the stars at night and the pine tree tops in the day. The recreation centers are great! We went lap swimming in the pool at Del Mar and really enjoyed our swim in the warm water. Our whole experience was absolutely perfect!
Beautiful Sea Ranch location in the redwoods with an ocean view. Cozy living room with lots of windows. WiFi is very fast and TV had plenty of streaming apps. Kitchen fully loaded. Bedroom is upstairs loft so be prepared to climb. We really enjoyed our stay.

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in
Beautiful, simple cabin.
We loved the cabin and the hot tub was great. Sleeping under the skylights was special! We would have appreciated the parking pass being left in the cabin for us - so as not to have had to drive to Gualala and back for that after what was already a long drive. And the cabin was 46 degrees F when we arrived! The gas fireplace is lovely but took nearly 6 hours to get us up above 60…. I would recommend during cold weather having the thermostat preset to at least 62 so as to avoid this issue for incoming guests.

Dream Vacation Cabin
For our 3-day retreat, we wanted something in a quiet location, surrounded by trees, but not be too far from the ocean lest we get creeped out at night, and this cabin really fulfilled that wish. It was in a great location from Gualala, where we could pick up necessities, but it also has a really well-stocked kitchen with equipment (pots, pans, utensils, cooking tools, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, etc.), even bowls and an eating area for our dog, and everything was well-labeled. We were pleasantly surprised to find baking ingredients, and if we had stayed a bit longer, we would have loved to take advantage. We did use the grill, which worked great, the parking and trash situation was totally fine, there wasn't much trouble with loading and unloading. The bed was very comfortable, the skylight was lovely, the bathroom had all the needed amenities including a hair dryer, the cleaning pantry was stocked well so we could keep things tidy, the fireplace was so cozy, and the hot water came fast. All in all, we couldn't ask for more. I hope we will be back soon to enjoy this architecturally beautiful, well-designed cabin, and cozy space, and continue to explore the lovely Sea Ranch area and everything it has to offer for its community and visitors.
It is serene, elegant and relaxing. Loved it and plan to return
