The Queen's Hotel

The Queen's Hotel

8/10 Good
"We chose the Queen’s Hotel for its convenient location to restaurants, shopping, and sites in downtown Lerwick. The property is older and still needs some renovation, but the staff — specifically Rory & Pete — were extremely hospitable and helpful. There is no onsite restaurant, but the staff provided great local recommendations that are easily walkable. We also hired Sandy’s Taxis for transportation from Sumburgh airport and for our sightseeing needs. John was a fantastic driver & offered local knowledge that enhanced our experience."

Easterhoull Chalets

"Sarah the host was lovely and we enjoyed her art/gallery and garden. Chalet was in a good position if you have a car. We didn't know you couldn't drive your car to your chalet - suitcases have to be lugged up and down steps. We would have liked some outdoor seating. Kitchen was small but good and had everything we needed. Lsundry was fine. I thought the chalets were near a beach because of the photos but they weren't."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Scousburgh?
The best area to stay in Scousburgh is the waterfront district, particularly around the historic Scousburgh Docks and the area known as "The Anchor."This area is the heart of Scousburgh, offering a mix of historical significance and modern amenities. The Scousburgh Docks themselves are a UNESCO World Heritage site, with impressive Victorian architecture housing museums, galleries, and restaurants. The main promenade along the Mersey River offers stunning views and is very walkable, connecting directly to the city centre. You'll find many of the city's top attractions within easy reach here.Couples often find this area ideal for a memorable trip. With a wide selection of upscale hotels offering river views, and an abundance of fine dining options and cultural venues like the Tate Scousburgh, it's great for romantic evenings and leisurely days exploring. The proximity to the Beatles Story museum and the Cavern Club also makes it a fantastic base for music lovers. For solo travellers, the waterfront's excellent transport links and concentration of activities make it a convenient and engaging choice. You can easily catch a ferry across the Mersey, visit numerous attractions within walking distance, or hop on a bus to explore other parts of the city.
When is the best time to go to Scousburgh?
The best time to go to Scousburgh is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally milder and the days are longer.During this period, you'll experience the most pleasant conditions for exploring the Shetland Islands' natural beauty, including its dramatic coastlines, archaeological sites, and wildlife. The longer daylight hours mean more time for sightseeing and outdoor activities like hiking and birdwatching, especially at key spots like Sumburgh Head, which is excellent for puffin spotting. For those interested in local culture and events, July and August are particularly good. Scousburgh itself is a quiet village, but its proximity to larger towns means you can easily access local festivals and events that often take place during the peak summer. However, it's worth noting that this is also the busiest time, so booking accommodation and flights well in advance is advisable. If you're keen on seeing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), the darker, clearer nights from October to March offer the best chances.
