  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

The Nest is the Best!

Only good things to say about staying here! The Nest is charming, comfortable, and quiet while still being very conveniently located…an easy walk downtown or to other neighborhoods south of the park. No problems finding on street parking for our vehicle either. Between the kitchenette and laundry, everything is provided for a short or even slightly longer stay. Will definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Place, perfect location

We were lucky to find this lovely carraige house in the best part of town, a charming neighborhood near forsythe and many places to eat and drink. My daughter and I were from St. Pete escaping the hurricane and this was a wonderful, cozy stay all the way down to the very comfortable bed, the coffee, and the lovely garden down below. Many thanks for a great stay!!

Heart of downtown Savannah

Perfect location for a stay in Savannah without a car. Very sweet and convenient spot with grocery store nearby for provisions. Property manager very helpful in trying to operate the TV and heater. Would happily stay here again.

Very convenient location

My husband and I visited Savannah for our 35th anniversary. The location of the carriage house is very convenient to everything. We had an issue finding the location and had to call the property manager but other than that our stay was very enjoyable.

Perfect spot to experience Savannah

Cute, cozy apartment, perfect for two. Large porch on 2nd floor overlooking a secluded courtyard. Easily found parking close by, and didn’t use the car once the entire stay. Perfect place if you’re looking to head out and experience/explore Savannah on foot. Would book again next time!

Great spot for a solo trip

This was the perfect place for me - I stayed 2 nights for a marathon and the space was perfect for my needs. The only trouble I had was with check in, the keypad on the door was not working; however the host was immediately responsive to my panicked text and the issue was resolved with only very minor inconvenience. The bed was very comfortable and I slept SO well the second night (once I realized I needed to close the curtains to block out the streetlights). Location was perfect too, walking distance to the few places I went during my brief stay and many more I wish I’d had the time for.

A Getaway Gem

I visited Savannah for my friend’s wedding. My friend and I booked this carriage house for the weekend. Pictures don’t do it any justice, and we were so pleased with our booking. It was very clean and had a historic charm to it. The courtyard was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed the little bit of spare time we had out on the balcony. This listing is located within the historic district and conveniently located to all of the places we wanted to see. I will be using this listing as my “go-to” spot for my future Savannah trips. Low country stay, ya’ll means all!

Amazing location, beautiful sights to see! Charming courtyard, and very romantic ambience. Didn’t receive the welcome email, messaged the host, whom recommended I check my email. Still wasn’t there, able to get the information to make the most of my trip, when leaving sent a nice message and still not certain the host has a pulse. Nice tho!

Wonderful location!!

Great location to walk to Forsyth Park and even to the waterfront if you are so inclined. The gardens were wonderful and the flowers smelled amazing!! I gave the Nest only 4 stars for two reasons, This is by no means a bad review, just a couple observations. 1. The bed is very soft. It’s great if you like soft, but I have a bad back so it was a bit too soft for me. 2. It is a bit small, Great for a single a bit cramped for a couple. Yet still doable for a couple. Other than that it is a lovely little Nest for a long weekend. Thank you for sharing your loft.

Loved everything about it

We loved everything about this property. It was clean. The small kitchen was stocked with everything, even though we only used the water kettle. There is even a washer and dryer, which was convenient on this rainy weekend. We found street parking right outside the lane and after 5pm on Friday it was free. You're only steps from Forsyth Park and minutes from downtown. I would definitely recommend!!

Quiet neighborhood, easy access to trolley

The bungalow(?) was clean and in a good area however, it definitely isn't as relaxing as I'm used to. It was charmingly rustic but a bit too rustic for my tastes. Since we spent a lot of our time walking around the city, we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. However, when we did, we couldn't really kick back and relax. There's a couch (not too comfortable) and a small chair. The bed was way too soft to sit on. It was also very dark in the room and not that essy to find. We walked around the block once trying to find it, not realizing it was a hidden door that we overlooked . Kudos for cleanliness and Savannah-charm, though. We felt very safe there.

Wife qnd I came down to go skydiving for her 40th birthday.Place was easy to find well decorated and very clean.Very close to restaurants and park. I actually messed up our dates and they let us change with just a weeks notice. Would definitely stay again if we visit.
