"Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were always excellent. We particularly enjoyed visiting the rooftop (terrace) bar, especially during its "happy hour"! Mixed feelings about our room. Although undoubtedly stylish, it was surprisingly dark and we thoroughly disliked the needlessly complex lighting controls. We would also have preferred a more complete separation of "private" facilities (toilet and shower) from the other living quarters. "

10/10 Excellent
"This place was amazing. I will be back and that's a fact. The negatives that people talk of should be taken like a pinch of salt. Yes there is a few little improvements here and there but on the whole the food was amazing the place was lovely and it's just a lovely place"
"Loved the location, cleanliness and vibe of the hotel with fantastic pools and all staff were great.
Only downside was limited parking and I was only able to get a space at the hotel on 1 of 5 days, all other days I had to search for on street parking around 500m away from the hotel. Not ideal but aware there isn’t much can be done about it due to the central location."
"A truly beautiful resort in a picturesque location. The resort was clean, the staff were attentive, welcoming and polite. We were in awe every day walking around the beautiful property. Planning our return already... "
"Hotel is very nice! Clean and comfortable rooms, great breakfast buffet. The hotel overall is a bit dated, but still very comfortable and would stay again"
"Lovely hotel. Staff go out of their way to be helpful in a friendly non forced way.
Restaurant food was great. Good choice and well presented. Would go back. "
"Our stay at the Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism by the staff, who went out of their way to make us feel at home.
The hotel’s location is perfect—just a short walk from Funchal’s charming center, yet peaceful and right on the ocean. The views from the rooms and terraces are breathtaking, especially at sunset. We particularly loved the choice of swimming pools: the large sea-water pool with direct access to the ocean was a highlight, while the indoor heated pool provided the perfect retreat in the evenings.
Breakfast was outstanding with a wide variety of fresh fruits, pastries, and local specialties. Every meal we had at the hotel was beautifully presented and delicious, with attentive service to match.
The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, offering all the modern amenities while still maintaining a relaxed, island atmosphere. The beds were especially comfortable, ensuring we woke up refreshed each day.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the staff’s dedication to excellence—they consistently went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect.
We were given the warmest welcome by Samoume, who truly went above
We left feeling completely relaxed and already planning our next visit. If you’re looking for a blend of luxury, comfort, and authentic Madeiran hospitality, Pestana Carlton Madeira is the place to be."
"Everyone on the hotel staff was so nice and made us feel at home. The hotel was beautiful with wonderful views of the city. The pool deck was really nice and relaxing. Our spa services were outstanding!"
