Recent Reviews in Santibanez el Bajo

Parador de Plasencia

10/10 Excellent

"Property was clean, well maintained and historic."

Hospedium Hotel Doña Mafalda de Castilla

8/10 Good

"We stayed for two nights travelling to our destination and two nights a fortnight later on the way back. On both occasion there was no evening meals available due to closure of resturant. This was a bind as it meant driving into town, then walking around looking for somewhere to eat, most places being shut on Mondays and Tuesdays. Apart from that the hotel was a good stop off for a couple of nights."

Casa Rural el Rincón de Monfragüe

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel and hotel staff were excellent. The breakfast is outstanding! Our only issue was with Hotels.com who sent us several messages from the hotel highlighting trips and visits we could take. The did not pass on requests from the hotel to confirm our arrival time. As they did not have our telephone number, they could not contact us directly so this took a while to resolve."

Balneario Valle del Jerte

10/10 Excellent

"I stayed for business trip and the staff were very welcoming and helpful to me from when I arrived. My Spanish is not great but were always helpful to try and help or accommodate me. Breakfast was good and the evening buffet meals had variety of choice. Many of the guests clearly visit for the pool and spa facilities, as well as hiking trials and cycling routes in the area. I did not have time for this but had an enjoyable stay and would return due to the practical location and friendly staff."

LOS ALAMOS BOUTIQUE

10/10 Excellent

"We attended at the hotel on a Sunday afternoon, where we found out that they don’t serve meals Sunday at all. ( No staff). But to be fair, No restaurants or cafes were open either owing to it being Sunday. (this included the town where the cafes and restaraunt’s don’t open till around 8 pm. But right next door to the hotel is a garage that sells fresh baked bread. Cakes. Packed meat slices. Cheese and drinks. More than enough to see us through. The male person who was on duty at the hotel was really helpful and told us that although the bar was closed, he would open up just for us, so we didn’t have to go without. ( there is also a coffee machine in every room). This is what you call real customer service. Again, the rooms were spotlessly clean. Very modern, and very comfortable. If you do go on a Sunday and you want to go to the town. It is literally 3 mins drive and just park in one of the main car parks and walk up to the Plaza Mayor where most of the restaurants and bars are. (You can’t drive into the plaza). Or ask the staff which they think is the best place to go. They are all very helpful. Already in the process of booking again in September."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Santibanez El Bajo?

The best area to stay in Santibanez El Bajo is the village centre itself, especially around Plaza de España.

The village centre is the heart of Santibanez El Bajo, characterised by its traditional Extremaduran architecture and narrow, winding streets. Plaza de España is the main square, featuring the town hall and the local church, and it's where you'll find a few small shops and eateries. The pace of life here is unhurried, reflecting the rural charm of the region.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find the village centre ideal. It offers a genuine taste of local life, with opportunities for quiet strolls through the olive groves surrounding the village or simply relaxing in a local cafe. The focus here is on enjoying the natural beauty and the unhurried rhythm of a Spanish village.

For those seeking a quiet retreat with easy access to nature, the areas just outside the village centre, particularly those with views of the Gabriel y Galán reservoir, are also excellent.

When is the best time to go to Santibanez El Bajo?

The best time to go to Santibañez El Bajo is during the spring (April to June) or autumn (September to October) when the weather is most pleasant for exploring.

Spring in Extremadura is delightful, with comfortable temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This is when the countryside is at its greenest, and the wildflowers are in full bloom, making it ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. The longer daylight hours also allow for more extensive exploration.

Autumn offers similar mild temperatures, typically between 18°C and 28°C, and the landscape takes on beautiful golden and russet tones. It's a great time for experiencing local harvest festivals and enjoying outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer. The olive groves and vineyards are particularly picturesque during this season.

While summer (July and August) can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C, it's a good time for those who enjoy warm evenings and want to experience local fiestas. However, daytime activities are often best planned for early mornings or late afternoons.
