The Copper Penny House is a restored miner's cabin from Madrid's mining heyday. The house is situated just steps away from all of the shops, galleries, restaurants and watering holes in the funky artist community of Madrid, yet it is private enough to relax on the wrap around deck and enjoy the vistas of the mountains or the night stars. The house has a full kitchen with stainless appliances and of course, a copper penny back splash. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, spices, oils, coffee, teas, creamers and everything you could possibly need for your culinary creations. The house sleeps four (PLEASE NOTE!!: the nightly rate is for 2 people, there is a charge of $25 per person per night for additional guests beyond two, so please type in accurate number of guests when you book, please!) The bedroom is on the second floor and has a queen size memory foam bed. Also on the second floor is a loft, perfect for reading, meditation or board games, (many of which are provided.) There is a full size sleeper sofa in the living room that sleeps two. The bathroom has a full tub/shower and a washer and dryer. Off of the living room is an enclosed sun porch, a perfect place to soak up the warmth with your morning cup of coffee or relax at the end of your day with a glass of wine. On the front porch take in the night skies. The wrap around deck takes you to the back porch where there is a picnic table and a gas BBQ grill to enjoy some cold beers and a burger. There is a very large fenced yard for your pups to play. Also there is a farm gate where you can pull your car into the driveway and park securely off the road and unload.

The Copper Penny House is the perfect location to base your New Mexico vacation, as it is only a half hour south of Santa Fe and 45 minutes north of Albuquerque. If you are motorcyclists like we are, you couldn't ask for a better locale. Madrid is situated on the Turquoise Trail, a scenic highway that begins just east of Albuquerque and winds its way through the high desert mountains, through Madrid and ending in Santa Fe.

We love our pets and for that reason we welcome your furry kids! Water and food dishes are provided as well as maybe a surprise treat!

Peaceful and inspiring

The house is creatively decorated, well laid out and full of outdoor opportunity. Walk to the cafes and shops to enjoy food, music snd the amazing locals. The hosts Miriam and Dan are attentive and kind. We will stay again

Cute penny house!

This place was perfect for us! So conveniently located to walk wherever we wanted to in Madrid. Our dogs loved being able to hang out outside without leashes and the patio is so nice.

Fantastic spot!

Love to find gems to stay in and this penny covered house was amazing! From the comfy bed. To all that was needed for places to sit on the deck read a book or just sit in the quiet. Thank you for the small touches like wine. The place across the street had good food, drinks and music. We hope to be back again soon!

This house is so charming! My partner and I loved everything about it and wow, what a sunset in Madrid, NM! Such a quiet little town and worth staying outside of the big city! Very well stocked, they even had a welcome treat and toy for our dog!

The Best Vrbo I’ve Stayed In!

This house was truly amazing! The hosts provided so many things, and it really made us feel at home. I’ve never been to a Vrbo that really thought of every single thing! They left treats for our puppy and wine for us as a welcome gift!The house has a great backyard, and is truly dog friendly. Everything is fully fenced and we didn’t see any open spots or issues! The doggy door was such a help, even though it took our girl a little time to use it!The town of Madrid is so cute. We spent a full day exploring Madrid and Cerrillos. Highly recommend! If you’re considering the Santa Fe/Albuquerque area, choose the Copper Penny House!

Beautiful, cozy getaway

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend in this stylish and comfortable home. The house and yard were impeccably clean. We spent a lovely morning on the deck enjoying the beautiful scenery and watching birds and lizards move about the yard. We hope to return to the area and would love to stay in this home again.

I have nothing but good things to say about this home & the owners. It’s a beautiful house in an incredible little town. My dogs loved the big yard. I really appreciate the warm welcome— especially for my dogs. They were really excited. The bed is really comfy & there weren’t insane rules about pets on the furniture— just use the covers provided and be respectful. The view is really nice & I was only a thirty minute drive from Santa Fe. Tavern and coffee spot were delicious. I am a young woman traveling with just my two dogs and I felt really safe. Thanks so much!

Such a memorable place!

What a delight to stay at the Copper Penny House in Madrid, NM. It impossible to describe ahead of time just how much attention to detail and nuanced care has been crafted into this home. Miriam and Dan have thought of everything for this well-loved property. I chose this stop for a unique experience and for the fenced in yard for my pup, which was bigger and more interesting than I'd even expected. My stay was cozy and delightful in every way. Watching the sunrise on the deck the first morning was pretty magical. Comfortable bed and great shower. The kitchen had everything I needed. I enjoyed exploring Madrid, collecting some pretty and unique pieces of art from local artists, and having perhaps the best burger of my life at the local tavern. I'm so glad I didn't miss out on this one and would happily stay again.

Our stay at the Copper Penny House was very comfortable. The attention to detail was awesome. It’s clear that there was a lot of thought given to making sure that their guests have essentials as well as a number of extra little thoughtful items. Dan and Miriam (owners) are also very timely in their responses when asked questions. They are also very detail oriented when it comes to your furry friends. There were treats on the table as well as poop bags and a nice large dog crate, if needed. Also, lanterns and a flash light for night time potty outings for your pet(s) or for the humans if a walk is needed. All super useful items to help make your stay that much more pleasant. We will definitely return to this property!

Loved staying here!

We stopped in Madrid halfway through a cross country road trip. We loved the town and were able to easily explore both Albuquerque and Santa Fe on our stopover. The town has many art galleries and restaurants and even though we were there on Sunday, there was live music all afternoon and early evening. The house itself is delightful- fantastic use of small space and packed with thoughtful amenities and interesting artwork and furnishings. The bed was very comfy, great water pressure in the shower, WiFi connection was smooth. After several days in hotels, we were ready to make a few meals and we found everything that we needed in the kitchen. For us the very best part was that our dogs could explore within the safety of a completely fenced in yard. They had a blast and our hosts had lots of amenities for them, too! We really can’t say enough nice things about our hosts: from the very accurate description of the house, great communication plus there was no burdensome list of chores to do at check out. You can tell that they put a lot of effort into making this home special. A+++ 5 star hosts for sure.
