Masseria La Maestà - "Torre delle Monache"
Cozy apartments set in a masseria located in an ancient farm that practices a traditional "AGRICULTURE" respecting the ancient rural techniques. Dating back to the 500s, in the fertile Salento countryside, between Gallipoli and Sannicola, five minutes from the sunny Ionian beaches.
The name "Maestà", certified by documents of the State Archive, derives from the fact that since the end of 400 the district was owned by the royal house of the Kingdom of Naples, so much so that in 1833 it was visited by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon. For several decades, at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it belonged to the Discalced Carmelite cloistered Sisters of St. Teresa of Avila, who has always been the Patroness of the district. No coincidence that in the farm there is an ancient church still open for worship.
The farm then passed to the Marti y Rojo family of San Bartolomeo, which continuously owned it, up to the present day.
Large open spaces, garden with olive trees, vineyards and as many as 300 fruit trees of various species, even rare, ancient and endangered.
In the morning it is nice to have breakfast under the outdoor gazebo or in the large garden with fresh fruit offered by the hosts, in a particularly ideal climate for families and for anyone who loves to be reunited with nature.
For those who wish it, wine and extra virgin olive oil produced directly on the estate are on sale.
The Masseria has several housing possibilities:
The TORRE DELLE MONACHE takes its name from the fact that precisely in the 600s lived there for a century the Carmelite nuns is in fact overlooking the church and is the oldest part of the farm.
It consists of a large living room with a huge fireplace, a large mezzanine with a second double bed, a spacious kitchen-diner with another fireplace entirely carved into the rock and covered with ancient majolica tiles, a bathroom and a large private terrace on the first floor. where you can smell the Gallipoli sea. The apartment of about 70 square meters is ideal for 4 adults with the addition of a cot on request. Dedicated outdoor gazebo.
