It was a nice surprise. The hotel was good enough for one night.clean and peaceful.
It would be nice to have more info on the nearby area and on the history of the place. Having to go through the restaurant with the suitcase is not a good idea and there is enough space to separate the two.
What an amazing location, finding it via sat -nav not good, instructions should read, enter via entrance to the Valley of the Fallen. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is an old monastery with wonderful character. Breakfast was good with a good choice, being remote, eating out in the evening not easy, so ate at the hotel, a limited fixed menu, quality was OK, but not excellent. I would definitely stay there again if in the area. I pre booked tickets for the Basilica, staying at the hotel gave free access, only 4 Euros so not a bank breaker. Very peaceful.
A charming monastery hotel within the valley of the fallen. Simple rooms offer a taste of monastic life in the quiet beauty of the valley. Guests should be prepared for simple dining fare at fixed, very Spanish hours: 9 am breakfast and 8:30 dinner.
A good stay but it would have been better if the bar was open, not just at weekends and there was an option for the evening meal (which was OK but only just). The evening meal was "almost cold" seafood soup followed by "warm" salmon. No choice. We weren't even told about it.
Staff were great and what made the visit extra special was the beautiful mass the following morning at 11:00. It says it's a 13 min walk but it's not, you need a car.
Very weak wifi in the room and no aircon which would be a problem in the heat of the summer.
Beautiful location and a nice stop but it needs a fair bit of work being done to it to make it a stunning stopover.
I stayed there and there was a demonic loud and long scream when no one was around it was about 1am and I left immediately after there is definitely paranormal activity happening there
a former monastery of great scale in a large campus in the mountain with black pine forest. the huge cross on the hill top is in the view from the room. although the decay on the exterior of the building is visible, the interior is well maintained. overall it gives you a unique experience.
The architecture is amazing, between a castle and an abbey. Sadly, there is poor management. There are no qualified services like restaurants, restrooms, or customer service, but in the end, that keeps it less crowded.
If you want to explore El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen monument stay in Madrid and make it a day trip. I stupidly booked this hotel and ended up not even staying there a night. Way too remote! I didn't have a car and was relying on taxis which made me vulnerable! This could be a five star resort in the right hands but not under current management. It should go back to being a monastery under present conditions! When I first entered the hotel it took me awhile to find a human being to help me. That's how deserted and lifeless the place was. And then the person I finally got couldn't speak English. This is how Spain wants to improve its tourist industry and economy?
