Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Salares?
The best area to stay in Salares is within the village itself, particularly around the main square, Plaza Salares, and the streets immediately surrounding it.

This compact village is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park. The main square is easily recognisable by the Mudejar minaret, a striking architectural feature that serves as a focal point. The streets are narrow and winding, characteristic of a traditional Andalusian "white village," and are generally very quiet. Most accommodation options are restored village houses or small guesthouses.

For couples seeking a peaceful escape, staying directly in Salares offers a genuinely relaxing experience. You'll enjoy the slow pace of village life, with opportunities for gentle walks through the olive groves and hills directly from your doorstep. The village provides a tranquil base for exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding park.

For those who appreciate local culture and convenience, staying in Salares means you're just a short stroll from the village's few local eateries, where you can enjoy traditional Andalusian cuisine.
When is the best time to go to Salares?
The best times to visit Salares are generally during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods avoid the intense heat of the Andalusian summer, offering pleasant temperatures for exploring the village and surrounding countryside. You'll find the weather comfortable for walking, enjoying outdoor meals, and visiting local attractions without the crowds of peak season.

Spring is particularly lovely for those who appreciate nature, as the landscape around Salares is lush and green, with wildflowers in bloom. It's a great time for couples to enjoy scenic drives and gentle hikes through the Sierra Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, which is right on Salares' doorstep.

Autumn offers similarly mild weather, and it's a good time for travellers interested in local culture and gastronomy. Many local festivals celebrating the olive harvest or other regional products take place during these months.
