Although the room was clean and ready at 2.00 pm (as they told us on the phone), they wanted us to wait until 4.00 pm to check-in. If we wanted to check-in at 2.00 pm, they told us that they would charge us an extra amount. As we had already paid for the room for that night and the room was ready, it was difficult to understand the justification for an additional charge for early check-in. A more flexible and guest-oriented approach would have been appreciated in this situation. Unfortunately, this experience did not align with the level of hospitality we expected.

We stayed in a lovely turret room of the old Chateau Frontenac. The ambiance was excellent by and large--although I thought the pool was small and primarily filled with squalling children--but for the price ( ca. $800 a night) it wouldn't hurt to include breakfast.
