The ancient Maya ruins at La Milpa invite exploration with a guide who'll reveal secrets of this archaeological treasure. Paddle through the New River lagoon to spot howler monkeys, toucans, and crocodiles in this protected nature reserve.

The lodge is in the Rio Bravo Conservation area in the Belizean rainforest near the Guatemalan and Mexican borders and attracts birders and those interested in the local wildlife and Mayan ruins. The tree on the right is a kapok or ceiba tree, which Mayans believed represented the hierarchical structure of the universe.
