Country Hotel Heydalur

10/10 Excellent
"Great little place in the Country! The room was much larger than expected. We actually had 2 separate bedrooms and a small kitchenette with dishes and a hotplate for cooking. This was a surprise. The staff is super friendly. The food was good. They also did our laundry (for a fee) while we were out exploring. This was a bonus since we were on a 14 day trip. Would recommend and would stay again."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Reykjanes?
The best area to stay in Reykjanes is Grindavik, a small fishing town on the south-western tip of the peninsula.Grindavik is primarily known for its proximity to the Blue Lagoon. It's a working town with a harbour, a few local shops, and restaurants. The town itself provides a good base for exploring the Reykjanes Peninsula, including the Bridge Between Continents and the Reykjanes Lighthouse. This area is particularly well-suited for couples looking for a relaxing escape. Staying in Grindavik allows for easy, quick access to the Blue Lagoon, superb for unwinding after a day of exploring the dramatic volcanic landscapes and geothermal areas of Reykjanes. For those prioritising convenience and access to wider amenities, staying closer to Keflavík International Airport (KEF) or in the town of Reykjanesbær might be a better fit.
When is the best time to go to Reykjanes?
The best time to visit Reykjanes is during the summer months, from June to August, or for Northern Lights viewing, from September to March. For those looking to experience the region with the most daylight and the mildest weather, summer is ideal. The days are long, often with nearly 24 hours of daylight in June, which allows for extensive exploration of the peninsula's volcanic landscapes, geothermal areas like the Bridge Between Continents, and coastal towns. This period is superb for hiking, whale watching tours from towns like Keflavik, and enjoying the natural beauty without the chill of winter. If seeing the Northern Lights is a priority, the darker, colder months from September to March offer the best chances. While the weather can be more unpredictable with strong winds and snow, the longer nights provide ample opportunity to witness this spectacular natural phenomenon. Hotels often offer Northern Lights wake-up calls, and many tours specifically cater to chasing the aurora borealis away from light pollution.
