Mountain Rustic Ski House Tahoe-Reno Mt Rose-Snow Resort 1.5 Miles
We have come Skiing from San Diego, CA to Mt Rose for many years and loved it. So, when we learned of the opportunity to buy this home so close to the Mt Rose Ski Resort, we jumped at it. This is a one of a kind Home hidden in the Mountains above Lake Tahoe off the Mt Rose Hwy 431 with views to Reno, a short distance up an unpaved road about 200 yards from Main Hwy and only 1.5 miles to Mt Rose Ski Area. At about 7600 feet, it is almost always a nice temperature on the hot Reno Summer Days. Besides being a wonderful vintage home, the views are incredible. Did I say the Views from this home are incredible. Well it is certainly worth mentioning more than once. This house was built in 1950 by the first Ski Area Developer in all of the Sierras. Everyone who lives in the area tells us that this is the best built house anywhere around. We love it and want to share it. The first renters said they loved it and felt like they were in a museum. I would not call this a Luxury Home, but a very comfortable place to stay. One really feels at home at our home in the mountains. The Home is located right next to Sky Tavern Ski Area, which the builder of this home also Built. There is so much history for the area and Ski resort. Sky Tavern was the first Ski resort in all of the Sierras. We Love to speak to future guests. During and right after winter storms you may need 4 wheel drive and/or chains to reach our parking area. There is parking available at the Sky Tavern parking below about 200 yards near the main highway where you can park and walk up. Our private road is not always cleared regularly after a large snow storm, and many of the people who live on the road ( just 10 houses) leave their cars below by the main highway during large storms. Situated halfway between Incline Village, Lake Tahoe and downtown Reno, NV is Sky Tavern. A unique mountain top community that’s surrounded by wilderness and is only 1.5 miles from Mount Rose Ski Area.
Our home is a comfortable and spacious home designed for those looking to enjoy a mountain home with easy access to skiing, hiking, mountain biking or everything Reno and Tahoe have to offer.
The home has a dramatic fireplace in the living room on the main level, along with the kitchen, master bedroom, a full bathroom, and a bedroom with a great Queen platform bed with the newest type memory foam Mattress.
Downstairs, you will find 2 bedrooms & the Den bedroom plus a full Bathroom. The house is very comfortable but not “fancy”. Its warm and cozy during the winter and is the perfect home base for ski days at Mt Rose or exploring the greater Reno/Tahoe area.
The house is less than a 25 minute drive from Reno-Tahoe International Airport and downtown Reno. It’s 20 minutes to Incline Village and Lake Tahoe .
Also, our house is just a few blocks to what I feel is the best rental equipment store, MountainTop Sports. They rent Skis, Boards, sleds, clothes, and just about anything you will need for the winter at very fair prices. Also in the summer months they have rented out E-Bikes. Their phone number is 775-852-1300.

We had a great time! The home was not fancy, but it was very comfortable and homey. We had everything we needed. Its semi-isolated location was just what we were looking for. It provided peace and quiet, along with fantastic views. But, it was still only around 20 minutes to a major Grocery store. We would stay there again.
We had a wonderful stay in this rustic cabin. It has the most beautiful views of the valley and surrounding areas. The hosts were very helpful and the location was very close to the wedding venue we were visiting.
Awesome views! Absolutely the closest to our family event! The beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of space. We would definitely stay here again.
Cozy home with everything you might need. Clean and roomy, fit 4 adults and 1 teenager easily. Location was wonderful and minutes from the Mt Rose ski resort. Beautiful view from living room. Overall a fantastic pick for our holiday getaway!
This is like a rustic ski chalet, but it has everything you need – good Wi-Fi, excellent shower, lots of space and absolutely fantastic views. It’s not fancy, but comfortable, and I loved hiking the surrounding area.
This property was perfect for us. We had a family wedding close by, and we were able to relax and enjoy things. The view is wonderful, and so very peaceful.
The owner is fantastic to work with, we really enjoyed our stay.
The host was more than kind and welcoming. We were having issues with the booking and the host helped us greatly. There’s a sledding place nearby for kids and it was perfect for the whole family. I would love to come again !
This is our second time in the house and we love it cuz it makes our stay with our toddler and dog easy. Home had everything we needed, was clean, and had plenty of space to play with snow. The view was amazing.
The views were amazing. After spending time at Lake Tahoe during the day, we enjoyed the coziness of the place. Cooking dinner, enjoying the patio and good times. Loved that the pantry wasn’t bare and there was plenty of cleaning supplies to utilize.
We ’ve already talked about meeting there again.
Large older home with lots of beds. Kitchen well stocked. Living room had comfortable recliners & couch with big screen TV. Easy to find location, just off hwy. Appreciate being able to take my dogs with me. Easy drive to Reno, Virginia City, or other way to Incline. Big window in LR faces Reno with views that get better at night when city is lit up!
Great place with wonderful views! We stayed three nights skiing Mt. Rose during our stay. Check in was super easy, talked with the owner and had no issues. We were even allowed to check in early. The house was very clean with everything working and items we needed. The house has older furniture, but it was like going back in time, we even played an 8 track for music at night. Very cool and unique property. Curtis who owns the local ski shop just next door helped out with rentals and told us the history of the area. Everyone was super nice!
We wanted to rent a cabin that would be warm and cozy and close to a ski hill. We got both. The cabin is knotty pine inside and was very clean. The guys got to ski, the little one got to play in a lot of snow and the cabin kept us warm and cozy. It had everything we needed to cook and plenty of beds to sleep in. It had a beautiful view of the south Reno valley. we were able to use the supplied snow blower to clear the driveway to go skiing. We had an unexpected amount of snow come down in a 24 hour period. It was beautiful. Be prepared to shovel and use the snow blower, if you come in the winter.
This mountain getaway in tucked right into the side of Mount Rose. You love sking or snowboarding? You can do it basically out the front door. Love mountain hiking same thing. Not to mention the view of Reno at night is beautiful. The cabin itself is an ode to an older time that brings back memories of what mountain living would've been like before the hustle and bustle of the modern age took over....just make sure you either have good AWD/4x4 or are okay with the hike up the hill in the winter, and yes it can be very slippery. I speak of experience. Overall it was a nice retreat away from the city to enjoy all the possibilities of the mountain.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The house was well maintained and had everything we needed (bring your own shampoo/conditioner). Fantastic view of the city lights! Close to the ski resort and not too far from town for any supplies we needed. We'd definitely stay here again.
We had a terrific stay at the ski house. House has real charm and plenty of space. Not to mention the view! Would absolutely stay here again if we returned.
