"We get to the hotel and greet the receptionist and say we have a reservation and she starts speaking in german and say we don't have a reservation (i think) in a very angry way, and when i didn't understand she got even angrier and gesticulates at us, and then guy shows up that speaks good enough english and we ask what's wrong and he says nothing and we get our key. "We stayed one night at the Hotel Pommernland having flown in to the nearby Anklam airfield. As it was the Ascention weekend there were no taxis available so the hotel manager Eric kindly gave us a lift into town to a greek restaurant. Hotel was clean and tidy and the rooms were absolutely fine. My only criticism is that there was only 1 feather pillow supplied which was way too soft, my head sunk straight through it. Breakfast was OK."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Rattey?
The best area to stay in Rattey is the village centre, particularly around Gut Rattey.

Gut Rattey is the heart of the village and is home to the Schloss Rattey, a historic manor house that now functions as a hotel. This area is surrounded by the Rattey vineyard, the northernmost commercial vineyard in Germany. It's a peaceful setting, superb for those looking to relax and enjoy the local wine culture.

Couples will find this area particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. Strolling through the vineyards, enjoying wine tastings directly at the Schloss, and dining at the Gutshaus restaurant offer a refined and tranquil experience. The historic architecture and scenic views contribute to a memorable stay.

For travellers interested in a rural retreat with a focus on local produce, staying close to the Gut Rattey allows easy access to the vineyard shop and opportunities to learn about regional winemaking.
When is the best time to go to Rattey?
The best time to visit Rattey is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is at its most inviting.

Late spring offers mild temperatures, superb for exploring the vineyards and the surrounding countryside. The days are longer, and the blossoming nature creates a wonderful backdrop for walks and outdoor activities. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic escape, as they can enjoy wine tastings and scenic drives without the peak summer crowds.

Early autumn brings comfortable temperatures and the beautiful colours of the changing leaves, making it ideal for those who appreciate natural beauty and a more tranquil experience. The grape harvest often takes place during this time, offering a unique insight into the local winemaking traditions.
