The hotel is very close to some beautiful spots in Iceland. We chose it so that we could spend two nights and move from there to different points; it was a great decision! We managed to be out the whole day and came back for really great dinners. We enjoyed our stay very much; the staff made it even more enjoyable.

Of all the hotels we stayed over 11 nights, this hotel was the most average. On the plus side, the reception-lobby area has a lovely sitting area for complimentary tea, coffee and cocoa. Our room was relatively large. Convenient to Skógafoss (great hiking) and Skógar Folk Museum (not to be missed). On the negative side, large tour groups stay at this hotel, which made it noisy. The shower was tepid (perhaps just ours?). While the dining area has wonderful views, the food for breakfast and dinner is meh. Recommend dinner down the road at Gamla fjósið. Don't forget to fill up with petrol/gasoline; nearest petrol/gas station is Vik.

Convenient location
This was our first night in Iceland and just an overnight. The room was small but clean. The bathroom did have a little odor as mentioned in other posts but we kept the bathroom door closed so it did not get into the room. In the morning the odor was gone. It was a small but clean room. We had dinner and a drink in their dining room which was very convient for us. Food was good. The morning breakfast was good also. For just 1 night this place was fine.

The hotel had a very pretty view. The rooms are clean and I felt safe traveling alone there. You can sort of hear people in the hallways from inside your room though. Definitely worth the cost

Room had a vile odor from the shower that the receptionist told us they knew about. Awful owner refused to give us a new room or refund. No lights outside to enter the door leading to the rooms and my friend tripped on a loose brick on the steps in the dark and broke her arm. Had to call the ambulance without help from the staff or owner, who never even checked on her after.

It’s located out in the quiet not for shopping as we chose. It would be nice if not so many lights on the hotel itself for those who are trying to see the night sky or Northern Lights.

They did not have proper rooms. We booked two units. Both were wrong. Got put into a janitorial closet. Service people were nice property owner was a grouch.

Not worth the price
This is so expensive for what it is. I was greeted by staff who looked through a pile of keys to find my room key. Room looks like it’s some kind of cell. The water gets everywhere in the bathroom from the shower. Wifi connection is pretty bad. It’s overall dated and not that clean. The only pros of this hotel is its location, 20 mins from Vik, 5 from Skogafoss.

We stayed at this hotel recently and found its location to be very convenient. However, we were disappointed with the cleanness especially the bathroom. Additionally, the air circulation was poor.

Basic hotel.
Very small room with not much of a view. Two beds, one made up, one not. Clean linens and towels. Small bathroom but plenty of hot water in the tiny shower. No frills ie. no TV, no hairdryer (altho' they do have them to borrow from reception), no kettle/cups/coffee - again there is this in reception for guests. I think the room would benefit from a little extra decoration maybe a couple of pictures on the walls. Sent a photo to a friend and she remarked "I thought you were staying in a convent!" :o)) All that being said, it was fine for one night and well located for my journey. Would I stay here again? Maybe.

Room smelled like urine and although the site said there were black out curtains in the room, there were not. Well, one tiny window had a full pull down shade but the very large window in the room that took up the majority of the back wall had no blackout curtain which was an issue.

We were a little concerned when we showed up in the late afternoon and there was not a single other person there; joked that it felt like the Bates Motel. But, of course, everyone was out exploring and the place was busy later that evening. It's in a beautiful location (be sure to check out the fascinating ruins that are right next door! (https://guidetoiceland.is/connect-with-locals/regina/drangshlid-rock-and-the-elves) The place itself was sparse and utilitarian but clean. Breakfast was what appears to be a standard Icelandic hotel breakfast buffet (same as what we had elsewhere) and had dinner there one night, which was pretty good. Would stay here again!

The location is great, close to Skogafoss. We checked in at 10 pm. The gentleman at the reception showed the room to me rather than just pointing to the direction. There were hot water and tea in the common area. The breakfast was good as well. The room was nice and the beds were comfortable. The hot shower was working at night. But there was no hot water in the morning. It could be just a temp problem. Highly recommend this place.

Booked a single room for a one-night stay while friends stayed at the more expensive and fancy Umi Hotel about 10 minutes away. Hotel Drangshlid was clean and perfect for the price - the room came with two single beds, but only one was prepped for my stay with exactly one pillow, one blanket, one bath towel and one face towel. TV in common room with board games and complimentary coffee and tea. Continental breakfast buffet was comparable to a US motel buffet in a newly renovated dining area with beautiful views.

Start with the not-as-good: We were a family of four, with two adult children. The extra bed was the problem - it was rather uncomfortable, it was setup so that only one person could easily exit the bed, and it made the room confined. I think it would have been fine years ago when our kids were smaller, but it didn't work well with four adults. But the pluses outweighed the negative. I really liked the restaurant - we had a dinner there, and had one of the absolute best hamburgers I've ever had. I also liked the breakfast. It was not a traditional breakfast that we Americans are used to, but hey, we weren't in America. I believe it was pretty much a traditional European breakfast, and I thought it was just splendid with lots of yummy choices. And the view from the open air restaurant was just lovely. We had two nights here, meaning two breakfasts, and for one of them we needed to leave just as breakfast was starting, so the staff gave us some plastic bags to load up our breakfast and take it on the road with us. And all the people we dealt with (as always in Iceland) were just delightful. It was also fun having the hotel be immediately next to some historic houses built into the rocks. That was a fun quick visit, too. And it was also right by the gorgeous Skogafoss waterfall. It all made for a very nice stay.
