We had a great stay at Villa Mercedes. Hidden up in the hills above Mismaloya, we had great access to beaches and Zona Romantica with the feeling of being up in the jungle. Great view. Ample room for our extended family of k11.Gaby and Luz were great
Beautiful hillside villa with breathtaking views. It’s a little out of town and up a pretty good hill but nice your there it sooooo worth it. Lots of stairs in the villa but again the views make it worth it. Clean well appointed and beautiful. Staff is amazing and an absolute pleasure to work with.
Loved every minute of our stay. The views were even more amazing than the pictures and being close to everything while still being out of the way made a world of difference it felt like we were in our own little resort. Breakfast in the mornings were delicious and catered to the adults as well as the children. Honestly couldn’t say enough good things. I will say the roads to the property are pretty steep so make sure you take an appropriate vehicle to get to and from ! Overall 5/4 stars !
As with any place, there are pros and cons. Overall, we loved our time here. Gaby and Luz were absolutely wonderful! They handled everything that came up like champs. So thankful they were there to help orchestrate our adventures. Breakfast served every morning and we had no cleanup. We took advantage of dinners prepared and served most nights, and so glad we did. Again, no clean up and meals were delish and mostly less expensive than if we were to all go out. (there were 11 of us)
The villa is beautiful. Rustic and authentic. It had plenty of space for our family of 12. Everything was very clean. The best part of this villa is Gaby and Luz. They made staying here even more wonderful. They make the best breakfasts. Anything we needed for the villa we only needed to ask Gaby and it was done! He is very honest and will only recommend excursions and experiences with trusted people. I would love to come back here again!
Traveled with couples, and this place was excellent. Plenty of space and privacy. One large room on the top floor, another below with living room. Main level is the kitchen. The are additional spaces are studio/apts at and below pool. Each has 2 rooms/beds, I believe. Gaby and Luz are absolutely wonderful. Breakfast was more than affordable and delicious. Its a real treat to have coffee brewing then taking it to the deck to see the whales breach in the distance. House was clean.Communication prior to check in was good too, thank you Mercedes.Gaby hooked up a boat day, that we will all never forget. I believe his name was Luis. The next morning Gaby made us ceviche from the fish we caught that was so good! The house is up on the hill and difficult to walk, but taxi up and down is easy.Definitely going to do it again!
Villa Mercedes offers the best of Mexico to experience panoramic ocean views from a jungle setting high above Mismaloya in a multi-level Mexican mansion. Walk to fantastic local restaurants, and beach. Beautifully furnished, with old world style artifacts and charming personal flair that truly makes you feel you are a guest in Mercedes home! Gabi and Luz went on and above for us, even preparing chicken for our poodle at every meal. They are absolutely lovely and made our trip the best. We were just 2 people but plan on returning with a large group based on the hospitality we received and quality of the villa. This is not a resort tourist spot, so plan on walking and opening yourself up to an authentic cultural experience you will treasure forever. 6 stars! Muchas gracias, Gabi, Luz, and Mercedes!
We had a group of 9 people that stayed at Villa Mercedes for a week. We loved the fact that it was in Mismaloya, which is so much quieter than Puerto Vallarta. The house has an amazing view of the ocean from its location on the hill.
Positives:
-Gaby and Luz! I can't stress this enough. Gaby and Luz were the best part of this property. Gaby helped us book excursions, get taxis, and gave us recommendations. We definitely saved money by going directly through him. The breakfasts that the two of them cooked each morning were fantastic. The fruit in Mexico is just so much better.
-The space was awesome. We had a group of 9 people, and the layout was perfect for us.
-Location. It was nice being away from the crazy crowds of Puerto Vallarta. The beach at Mismaloya was much calmer and cheaper.
Negative:
The only thing about this place is it's open, so you're going to get some bugs hanging out with you, but they certainly weren't a big deal. The AC in the bedrooms worked great, but had trouble in the main gathering areas, but not to the point where it was that bad.
Overall, we would absolutely stay at Villa Mercedes again. The communication with the host was perfect. We can't wait to return!
I can't say enough about our stay at Villa Mercedes. It was the pefect place to relax and spend time with family and friends for my son's wedding in Mismaloya.
The place is wonderful, the location is very quiet, ideal to relax, Gabriel and his partner are wonderful, they took great care of us, we had a beautiful experience and we loved the house, we hope to have the opportunity to return on future vacations !!
I wasn't expecting such an awesome level of service. luiz/gaby went out of their way to make us comfortable..awesome place...best ive ever been in. cant wait to get back
Secluded area. Very quiet.Gaby and Luz were great, kept the property clean and prepared great breakfasts daily! They made our stay very enjoyable. The pool is quite cold so heating or solar blanket is preferred in colder months. We could not get any room to cool down enough for a good nights sleep. We closed all the windows and arranged at least 7 stand up fans near the bed. Lots of steps! Main bedroom is on top floor.Unique original Spanish style. Older house, but didn’t bother us. Uber drivers have a hard time finding the house as it’s very remote and up a very steep cobble stone hill. Very far from main attractions. Non navigable streets, must taxi or uber each time. Most restaurants are at least 30 minutes away. Located next to zoo, didn’t bother us, but parrots in the morning and early evening are loud. Beautiful to see though! Showers had great water pressure and heating but water got everywhere. Bring your own shower amenities! Would be a great spot for large group, with plenty of privacy.
This is a beautiful home with amazing staff. Gaby and Luz elevated our trip from great to amazing! From the breakfasts they cook each morning to the dinners we requested! The food was better then we had at local restaurants and their service is top notch! We celebrated my son's birthday while we were there and Gaby even got him a birthday cake and made special drinks for the dinner! The views are breathtaking and we had plenty of room for the 11 adults we had with us!
My friends and I came right after a Hurricane. There was a lot of destruction on the roads and in the jungle. The house was lovely. Mercedes and Robisito were wonderful. There are no words to express how wonderful Gabi and Luz were. I would go again.
First of all, Gabi and Luz were the best part of trip, besides the house and the scenery and Mexico itself. Woke up every morning to coffee and an amazing breakfast. If we needed anything, Gabi was there to help us. I hope we left them a big enough tip🤔. With this being our 7th year in a row, this house was the best!!! (If you aren’t used to Mexico, especially this area, be ready for the beetles, moths and cute little lizards that will visit, but won’t bother you) With all that being said, highly recommend this house!!! See you in a year!
Our family of 5 (3 teenagers) stayed at Villa Mercedes for Spring Break. This house was perfect for us- lots of space for everyone to spread out. The best part of Villa Mercedes is Gabi and Luc. They took excellent care of us! From preparing delicious breakfast and dinner for us to helping us arrange last minute tours for the kids- they were so helpful.
We rented a small SUV to allow us to go into Puerto Vallarta and drive to Boca de Tomatlan for a few excursions. Having 3 active teens in our group- we did a lot during our stay- renting ATVs, zip lining adventure, night time taco tour, sunset kayaking to Los Arcos, and hiking to Las Animas beach. The house was a perfect setting to start and end our day. It was so nice to sit by the pool and relax after a busy day.

Exceptional service
The property needs some updating. The mattresses and pillows are pretty bad as well as the towels. The pool house bedrooms are so smelly and damp I still can't get the smell out of my leather purses or suitcase. On that note, Gabi and Luv could not have been better. Excellent service and the food was delicious! It rained a lot while we were there so we played a lot of games. The property is up on a hill that is walk-able if you don't have a faint heart. The drive into town is about 20 mins. Secluded and private. Thank you so much Gabi and Luv for you excellent service.
The property was not advertised properly. There were 7 of us over the age of 60. In order to go to bed you had to walk up or down concrete steps. Three of the guest had knee replacements and one had ankle issues. One person was even walking on a cane. There were LARGE FROGS in the kitchen area and gecko's throughout the house. We all had to find hotels except my brother who stayed at the house because he could not afford a hotel. On his last night there there was a power outage and it was pitch black all night!! They also did not tell us it was across the street from the ZOO. The owner refused to give us ANY MONEY BACK for our inconvenience and she was VERY RUDE!!! We are going to use our Social Media to boycott this property!!!
Everything was great until we were leaving but I'll get to that... Property is all together 5 levels, with the mini apartment being on the bottom, sub level. not to many bugs but had some mosquito bites, not bad at all though. lots of little geckos inside on walls and ceilings and some frogs but we loved them to eat all the insects! Our room was at pool level where air-conditioning worked great but forget about taking a bath in the beautiful tub because hot water runs out at only a couple inches deep. My parents stayed at top floor penthouse and water pressure was very low so flushing the toilet and trying to get a small amount of even toilet paper to go down was challenging. House was beautiful and views were nice but area was a little to run down for my tastes. House is listed as being in a "gated" community, this isn't the case, you drive thru an old arch that doesn't appear to ever have had gates. We were very excited and loved being there and read all the wonderful reviews about our hosts and had even brought gifts from our home town to leave them looking forward to their care. Anyways.... last day of our trip packing up the van to leave with all the luggage I walked out and stood behind Gaby watching him with my mothers large shoulder duffel bag open on the hood of a white truck, parked behind the van, and stood there watching him clearly looking in and using one hand to move things around quickly for maybe 30 secs before zipping the bag up and turning around to see me standing there. He never said anything not knowing how long I was there and I didn't interrupt him because I was watching to see if he took anything out, which he didn't. I immediately went to ask my mom if there was anything valuable in her bag and told her what I saw and she said her wallet was in her purse with her so she wasn't worried because nothing of real value was in the bag. I never confronted Gaby because I was still trying to make sense out of what I saw and we were driving away 10 minutes later but it is the next day now and I am home and regretting not saying anything. This has put a stain on my feeling of having a wonderful vacation :(
As a family of 11 we really felt pampered as we enjoyed the cool breezes of the jungle while we relaxed, visited, read books and enjoyed the deliscious food prepares by Gaby and Luz. On our first evening, after a stop at Costco en route from the airport, we felt spoiled as Gaby and Luz welcomed us with margaritas while supper was brewing. We opted for 6 dinners and often enjoyed the full breakfasts so kindly and expertly prepared for us. On our first full day, 9 of our group were wanting massages. Gaby arranged for massage therapists to come to the villa and they set up the beds for us, with 3 people at a time enjoying an hour of bliss while the therapists worked. The open air environment allowed for the cool breezes of the jungle to keep us cool. There are some bugs and we prepared for it so it wasn't problematic but it's something to be aware of. Gaby and Luz are truly gems and we really valued input and suggestions offered for adventures and options nearby. The hill is steep and so there was some fitness built in when walking down to town and back up... who needs a gym? The pool, though it has a cover, is quite *brisk* - the house shades much of the sun. We used the pool fairly often and it was quite refreshing. If you're looking for bathtub warm, it's not that. We enjoyed how spacious the villa is and we made use of the hammock on the top floor. The villa is so lovely! The rooms are airy and comfortable. The beds are soft and the bedding is, too! I could go on for days about the food! We opted for 6 supper during our 10 day stay. We picked up extra groceries for fulle breakfasts as well as yogurt, bread and extra fruit for those of the group who preferred something lighter in the mornings. Suppers were generous and it worked beautifully to have leftovers handy for lunches on the days where we were choosing to fend for ourselves. We were able to hop on the bus and head into PV or to Boxa de Tomatlan on the days we wanted to adventure a little. The villa is situated up the hill from Mismaloya and we felt safe and pampered while we were there. It's truly a beautiful, peaceful place for a holiday. Close to but not in the thick of things. Its location was perfect for our group and we were truly thankful for the ambiance and the service. Our communications with Mercedes went very well. She was very responsive and patient with our many questions prior to our stay. Highly recommend!
First, I gave this 5 Star rating because of Gabbi and Luz. They were absolutely amazing. The Food, the cleanliness & attention to my family was someone we had never experienced.
The View is amazing, the pictures don't do justice. I was shocked when we arrived how the view was.
The house is showing it's age, but very clean and presented well. Very well equipped, no worries on not having things to cook with. The common area/Dinning area is large and able to accommodate a large family, we were 10.
The rooms upstairs are spectacular, there was some bug issues at night on the end of our trip. Bring bug spray. I
The Rooms by the pool were great, very humid and can be open air if you wish. The mattress in the one room need replacing, it is like a pile wood sheet.
Overall the sleeping arrangements worked, if you have small children, might be a challenge for you.
There is also a suite below the pool deck, which we never used. Has a Queen bed and Twin bed. Top 2 Rooms in the main house have Queen bed and a double bed. Pool deck rooms has 2 Queen Beds.
The pool is not huge, but for a family of 10, we had no issue with the 4 Kids and a few adults enjoying the pool at one time.
Lastly, Mismaloya is a very small town. You can not buy a lot of groceries locally. All your main items would come from PV. Bus runs every 10 minutes or so, 10 Pesos each and takes about 25 Minutes. Taxi's are about 160 to 200 Pesos, depending on where in PV you are coming from. I would recommend a very large shop the first day. We ended up making multiple trips into PV which could have been avoided.
The quiet and remote location of the Villa is something we enjoyed. Other than some locals up and down the hill, you don't see anyone.
The hill up to the Villa is steep, we trekked it almost everyday. Not always up, but always down. We took cabs up on numerous occasion. If i were to come back, i would rent a car for at least a week of the Trip.
Food in Mismaloya was just as good as in PV, if not better. We ate at Tony's Seafood, El Jachilto and Mismaloya Grill. All very affordable and quality. Mr. Tequila is also a must:).
Great Property, unfortunately, unless your travelling with a large group, it is way to much house for a couple or two to rent.
this was our 3rd time staying at this property. gaby & luz are fantastic. they make you feel like family. they know everyone in town, they arrange rides, boat days, give great advice. very clean and safe property. my favorite place to get away from home life.
