This is an entire house with its own entrances, garage, dedicated outdoor space and parking. The house and kitchen are fully stocked with everything from towels and shower essentials to baking ware and cooking supplies. We provide creamer, coffee beans, Keurig, teas, sugar, artificial sweetener, salt and pepper, and cooking oils. We try to keep ketchup and mustard stocked, but it is best to bring your own additional condiments.
A little convenience store in the garage is stocked with snacks, bacon, local Lyman Ranch beef, fresh homestead eggs and our own home baked cookies. Check the top of the stairs for art and fun merch for sale. Firewood next to the woodstove is also available for purchase.
Let us know if you need anything specific for your stay!
We (the owners) live in a separate dwelling on-site with our friendly dog, so we're nearby to assist with additional needs, information, or possible emergencies, but we give our guests their privacy and typically only interact if needed. However, our friendly pup Bean loves to make new friends and will likely greet you and visit during your stay. Sometimes we are away from the property entirely, but we will let you know.
Check out our social media to learn more about us, Timberwolf Homestead, our pup Bean, and the lodge @timberwolf_homestead and tag us during your stay! Timberwolf Homestead is our home next door to the rental unit and includes a terraced garden, beehive and chicken coop. You will hear Henry the rooster crowing sometimes.
AWD or 4-wheel drive is recommended during harsh weather conditions. A portion of the access is a steep dirt road.
The front door is up the stairs to the deck. Your door code is required to access (sent on date of arrival).
Take note that cell service is spotty in this area and only Wi-Fi calling from the house is reliable.
When you enter the foyer, you will find to your right a binder that is the physical house manual. it contains an additional list of Welcome Tips to ensure your stay is copacetic. It includes both priority instructions and recommendations about the property and the surrounding area. To have access to the app (Alladin) that opens the garage from outside, you will need to let the host know you want access and we will send an invite to the app via your already provided email on your profile, since VRBO does not allow the sharing of emails or additonal/sensitive contact information between host and guest.
Please also note that while the woodstove is open for use, Josh, the owner/manager, will have no problem assisting you in getting it started or putting the fire out as needed. Matches and starter kindling are provided but the wood fuel is for-sale-only.

ADVENTURES & LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
Visit Tonto Natural Bridge (7 miles away) and plenty of other trails close by.
Water Wheel Falls (15 miles away) is our favorite easy to access water with gorgeous waterfalls and is great for kids.
If you are ready for a big hike, Bob Bear Trailhead (2.2 miles away) takes you to Fossil Springs and rewards you with beautiful cave of bright aqua blue water. It's 4 miles downhill to the water and 4 miles back up the hill to get out. Water and electrolytes are highly recommended.
The Strawberry strip is just 2 miles from the house. We highly recommend eating at Fossil Creek Farm, Pie Bar and getting the monster pizza at Momma Joes. Unwind and meet some Strawberry locals at Sportsman Chalet. They have cold beer, a great Bison burger, and the Wine-burger also comes highly recommended.
Pine Downtown is just 5.5 miles from the house and offers great options like THAT Brewery, Old County Burger, Old County Inn, and definitely check out the Pine-Strawberry Farmers market open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can find our cookies freshly baked from Timberwolf Homestead there! The Pine Creek Lavender Farm is a lovely spot to visit as well. Ponderosa Market in Pine has a large selection of basic necessities, firewood, alcohol, and groceries.
Want to check out a bar in the woods?! Below the Rim Meadery is worth the trip! Be sure to approach from Houston Mesa Rd near Payson. Google can take you on a nearly impassable route through the forest roads.
It's a scenic 1-hour drive to Woods Canyon Lake, where you can rent a variety of watercraft and enjoy being out on the lake. We love to rent a canoe and explore the trails along the shore with our pup. Both Woods Canyon Lake and Willow Springs Lake are great for fishing or swimming off the shore.
Knoll Lake is known for having very clean and clear water. It is a longer, more adventurous trip on a dirt road, but it's one of our favorite spots.

The hosts were amazing in communication and having the location prepared. A special guest greeted us (Bean) and she was a lovely dog to have come and go - we are a dog family. The location was excellent as you woke up and went to bed with amazing valley views and wildlife on the commute in and out. Will absolutely stay there again if the opportunity presents.
Great place! Family of 5 stayed for the weekend. Kids played on the deck and in the dirt. We saw elk everyday. Beds are comfy and the kitchen is stocked. Great location.
Great for teens - plenty to entertain! There were a ton of daddy long legs but after some Tictok education, the teen girls calmed down. You leave them alone, they leave you alone (it's a cabin after all!) Comfortable accommodations, spacious kitchen, enjoyed it tremendously! (Elk everyday!)
Very comfortable beds, awesome activities for family interaction, comfy sofa room as well. Everything well stocked - like TP, paper towels, dish soap, trash bags, even shampoo/cond. Greatly recommend.
This was a great place to stay! All 3 of us agreed, this was an awesome place. We had fun talking on the deck, playing pool, dartboard and ping pong. And it was a great base camp for seeing the sights. Wish we could’ve had a campfire, but that was out of everyone’s control. All in all, it was fabulous!! Thanks Josh, and Meghan for the delicious cookies. We hope to come back someday!
What a gorgeous property, something for everyone. As beautiful as the property is inside it’s equally beautiful day and night on the outside-talk about a star show. We had a great time and it was a much needed break from school and home. Transformational experience
This property is perfect for family's with young adult children. The game room was the highlight for our children! Myself and husband were able to relax with beautiful views and daily visits from dozens of elk walking through the area.
The property is nice and clean, comfortable beds, great location with no neighbors except the elks and a host who actually went above and beyond to make our stay even better. Thank you, Josh!
Out daughter just got married in Strawberry and we took a couple of days to unwind after the festivities. This was absolutely perfect. Saw herds of elk enjoyed the outdoor fire pit. The views were fabulous. And the hosts were wonderful.
The hosts were amazing from start to finish. There was a pretty bad snow storm the day we were arriving and they communicated with us the conditions of the roads until we arrived. The house was exactly as described. Love spending time in the game room. Will stay here again soon. Thank you
We saw elk each day. The property is just as described and who would have thought you would see a zebra, llamas, Guinea fowl and other animals while walking through the area? Yes seriously! It was great!
My dad, brother, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle and my little dog counted the days until our two-night stay here. And it didn’t disappoint. After several really tough years that included the passing of my mom, this was the first time my family saw me happy. I can attribute much of that to all of the games provided — taking us back to our childhood of competition for me and my brother. We are currently planning for a return in the fall.
Overall our family of 4 plus one dog really enjoyed this place!
It is very secluded, and has a couple of very steep roads to get to it. So definitely seems like you'd need a good vehicle depending on road conditions. We went in July so it wasn't an issue.
It has a great wrap-around balcony that was very fun to sit on and enjoy the cooler temperatures and amazing views.
Game room was a hit. Kitchen is well stocked. Family room and kitchen area was nice open area that everyone could hang out.
Only complaint was pro/con of the dog friendly nature of this rental, it seemed (smell wise) like another guests pet(s) may have marked in the master bedroom previously.
It's a great unit, particularly for families. Be aware there there is a full flight of steps from the parking/garage area to the main part of the house. You would need four-wheel drive to get to the upper level/back of the house. The third bedroom and game room were on the lower level - so stairs involved. And the roads in to the unit are very bumpy - but worth the drive. We saw elk several times every day. The home was very well appointed - we wanted for nothing. We were 4 retired ladies, so this was all a bit much for us - but we still had a great time. Thanks so much for sharing the home with us.
From start to finish, the hosts were amazing. They were friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and well-prepared. They were responsive to our questions, swift to respond and very understanding.
After some initial questions and messaging with the hosts, we booked through the app with absolutely no problems. Upon our arrival the house itself was wonderful, very comfortable, well-decorated, and surprisingly well-stocked with the little things you don't think of until you get there. The house was beautiful and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy some mountain serenity.
We had a couple more messages for the hosts after we arrived - we had a couple family members arriving later and had some questions that were answered almost immediately.
The hosts live close by in case of problems, but respected our privacy through out the whole visit.
We look forward to coming back for another visit and would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the pines.
A beautiful property! The home was very comfortable with many thoughtful amenities throughout. Lots of privacy & nice views while being tucked away among pines.
This was an excellent place for my family and pets to relax at! Great balcony, great views and very pet friendly! Spa was a very nice and welcome feature! Furnace is a bit loud for the pool table room futon, but earplugs solved that! Lol loved the visits from the owner’s pet Ms. Bean. Got along great with our puppers and she even accompanied us on a walk we took ip and down the road. Would love to stay again!
