Sonesta Maho Beach All Inclusive Resort Casino & Spa
6/10 Okay
"This hotel was really disappointing. Besides being conveniently located near Maho Beach (to watch and experience the plane jet blast & landing), the Casino and restaurants, it really isn't worth the price paid.
*The bathroom walls are grimy and not cleaned properly.
*There was construction going on outside our balcony
*Thank God for Cedric at the front desk that helped us with a room change. The lady that checked us in wasn't very accommodating at all. The staff was clueless about anything we asked about, and obviously were not doing anything out of their scope of work.
*We saw a roach while waiting on our omelets run across the omelet station, and NONE of the staff were alarmed. In fact one of the staff members said due to everything being in the open, it's expected. That was it for me. I refused to eat anything else at the hotel. The food was subpar at most in any event.
*We paid extra for dinner at Azul and it was amazing. The menu was limited, but the food was delicious and the ambiance was top tier.
I feel slighted because I definitely didn't get value for my money. Upon check out I finally spoke with a Manager named Govanni (I think was his name) after two previous failed attempts. He was apologetic, but not at all surprised by my complaints. The roach at the buffet didn't surprise anyone I mentioned it to. That speaks volumes and that tells me that it's normalized at this resort.
First and last time booking this hotel."
"I surprised my husband with this trip for his birthday. We had an awesome time. The location was just right, the views were amazing. The facility was clean. The landscaping was beautiful and the pool was just right. Nicki and Edsel provided excellent suggestions on restaurants, transportation and ferries."
"Clean room everyday, Staff was very friendly, Pool was clean and faces the beach, Restaurant open daily from 7am to 8pm. Small refrigerator in room ,no microwave in room. Its located in their dining room on the first floor. Will stay again. This place is Awesome!"
"Two bedroom 2 bath full kitchen on the beach. Beautiful views. We rented a car and it was easy to get around once you got used to it. Close to grocery store, Zipline, and town. Traffic is variable but so what you are on island time! Some staff were very friendly others not so much. Clean, a little run down but didn’t bother us. Laundry available with quarters. Umbrellas and chairs complementary. Cabs available and reasonable. French pastries great! You can even order from market on site. Food was good at the gingerbread cafe. Would come again for sure with more people! "
"Room was spacious but once the Murphy bed is down its a task. But the toliet flush is loud as ever. It also had a sewer smell the whole trip in bathroom after we showered. The beds are comfortable and the shower is good pressure. Some staff was so rude. But front desk staff wqa nice. "
"The resort itself was amazing. I based my booking on reviews and they were quite accurate.
Highlights: the beach is gorgeous, clear and clean, room and overall resort cleanliness, the pools are open 24/7, rooftop resto food on weekends.
Not so highs: We chose not to do the all inclusive and I found we were taken advantage of. Check your bills. They charge you 15% gratuity on every single bill so you do NOT need to tip. I had to argue with a waiter for being over-charged during happy hour, to which I was told the ‘virgin drinks’ were not included in happy hour yet bartender charged 3x 8usd smoothies instead of 2.25usd virgin drinks. I then escalated to management where I was told the charge would be taken care of and it never was, so on my final night there I had to spend time requesting the to remove the over-charge again and I’m not even sure after receiving my credit card statement that it ever was (although the itemized copy I signed showed it had been removed). To be clear my final bill was 800usd so a 35usd charge isn’t a big deal but it’s just annoying to have to deal with this on vacation
-signage hours are outdated
-Some staff are very rude, others extremely sweet (hit or miss).
-If you’re renting a car on site, note they will tell you that you can’t reserve ahead of time, you need to come morningof to see and they are always late which can be frustrating but you can go online and reserve ahead of time (the website is on the sign of the little car rental hut). "
"The location was favorable, offering immediate proximity to the waterfront and convenient pedestrian access to several retail establishments. However, the assigned room did not meet my expectations, as it provided a street view rather than the anticipated ocean view. Upon arrival, the room presented a minor odor, which was subsequently addressed and resolved within two days. Overall, the experience was satisfactory."
