Thank you for your thoughtful review. And thank you for staying in our cabin. In the closet off the bedroom is a file folder with instruction manuals for all the appliances. Our manager, Rebecca, is happy to go over everything with you. All that is necessary for the dishwasher is to put liquid dishwasher soap in the dispenser in the door (don't use much we have very soft water), close the drawer and pushing the button on the outside. For the cook top, if I remember correctly, one has to turn it on first (circle with vertical line at top) and then adjusting the heat on the selected burner, plus or minus. Please contact Rebecca with your concerns for maintenance. We do have regular visits for maintenance and would love to know your thoughts. We do block time in the calendar to have work done. If the problem is the double doors, we haven't come up with a good solution. Perhaps locking the shutters closed would be the answer?

We spent the two Covid years repointing ( or is that just bricks?) the logs and repainting inside and out. After hurricane Zeta we rebuilt the porch and bought new furniture. My grandfather built it as a refuge and we see it as that today. We love sharing the house with people like you. Come back soon.

Thank you for your review. The doors… the front door, meaning the solid door, is a normal key system. The doors with glass are the same as we have at our condo in New Orleans. They are designed to seal shut when there might be high winds. No need to turn the key when pulling up on the handle. But on the other hand, the French doors, they are an issue. We have not come up with a less confusing alternative. I need to do more research. Firstly we would need to completely replace the double doors and their frame. Sliding may not be rated for hurricanes?? Otherwise it would be two doors with a frame between them. If anyone has a solution, please contact us! Thank you!!

We take reviews very seriously. I was out of the country when you review came in and immediately called the manager of the property, Rebecca, to ask her about her reaction to the review. Rebecca indicated to me that she went to the property to answer your questions and spoke to you via telephone more than once. Rebecca told me that during your meeting no mention was made of the smell of dog and she did not notice a smell. While I haven't stayed either just before or just after your visit. I have never noticed the smell of dogs and I do go by regularly between guests. Being pet friendly, our crew is very attentive to thoroughly clean the cabin after each guest leaves. In the last year we have replaced all the chairs in the dining area, installed a new high end sleeper sofa with slip covers in an off white color that shows no signs of wear. There is a new lovely sofa on the porch. We have had the solid cherry wood bed side tables refinished by a cabinet maker. My husband and I have slept on the mattress and felt it was very comfortable and other guests have voiced the same. All the bedding was replaced with new bedding just a few months ago. 400 thread count sheets, etc. We continue to have issues with the lock on the double doors we do have a locksmith that works on it. Those locks were chosen due to their ability to withstand hurricane force winds but I think we will just install a lock on the wooden shutters to try to solve the problem. It is a complicated system which requires the handle to be held up while locking or before locking. Pulling the handle up pushes a bolt through the top and bottom of the locking door and keeps everything closed. We will buy a new coffee maker, this is the first time the coffee maker has been mentioned. I do appreciate guests letting me or Rebecca know via email or text when items need replacing. I was just in a property my husband and I rented and privately emailed the owner about a number of small items. I am always happy to know about those items but appreciate them through a private email, especially things that may have slipped past the cleaning crew. So many of our guests seem to appreciate all that the cabin offers and we, as owners, often stay there when it is not booked.

Wonderful! The Pass is so lovely, amazing it is cooler than New Orleans and almost always has a breeze. Last weekend it was interesting to see all the gulls on the beach looking like they are pairing up.

I (being the owner) do not monitor any communications except reviews. I am very sorry the fireplace was not clean. Unfortunately every property close to the beach within the city limits of Pass Christian has both the train and the highway. There are properties on Henderson Point and Pass Christian Isles, neither are technically in Pass Christian, that don't have the highway. Bay St. Louis is also an option for no highway, although the train is still fairly near. I find I only hear the hwy when on the porch. About the curtains, true there are no curtains but the majority of the windows are above shoulder height and all the windows have outside shutters that can be closed, although it makes it dark inside (could be a good thing?) There are no neighbors to the south or west within about 500 feet. The house is raised about 3-4 feet above the ground so one only sees the roof from outside the windows on the east and west. We do have new houses to the east on the living room side of the house. When we stay we often close the shutters to the south. I love seeing the views of the trees and the beach from the south and west facing windows. I honestly feel the house would loose its wonderful feeling of being in the extraordinary property with curtains. Perhaps it is what I am used to. The house has been in my family for over 100 years and the house has never had curtains that covered the windows. Your comment is only the second one I have had about curtains. I am open to the prospect but honestly I am a bit resistant. I love having the views and one's privacy is still intact, especially if you close the shutters to the doors faving south. Thank you!
