This is not your typical Palm Springs vacation rental. Featured in the latest issue of Atomic Ranch Magazine, this one-of-a-kind mini midcentury resort was designed by West Elm (a division of Williams-Sonoma) as a showcase home for Modernism Week 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2025. Totally reimagined inside and out, the home features a private, resort-style yard with an oversized 7’ deep concept pool, integrated waterfall spa, disco lights, tanning shelf, and a raised sun deck offering panoramic mountain views. Enjoy five fire features, three outdoor showers, an outdoor soaking tub, and a covered living pavilion complete with a wet bar, a built-in ice chest, and electric heaters. There’s also a bocce ball court, Corn Hole, and a Universal EV charger (available for a fee). This place is off the charts—absolutely incredible.

The West Elm House - The Alexander was an idea house created to inspire and guide architecture and design enthusiasts when it comes to the art of modernizing a midcentury home for the way we live today. It was on tour during Palm Springs Modernism Week 2017 and has been featured in Atomic Ranch and California Homes Magazine. Treat yourself to a vacation in this Living Show Room — the perfect “Midcentury to Next-Century Transformation” of an iconic 1950s home originally built by the Alexander Construction Company and then remodeled by Solterra Builders. The Design Team from West Elm used their product line of organic, handcrafted, sustainably sourced sofas, tables, beds, lighting, and accessories to furnish this classic home (circa 1958).

OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES
Completely walled for privacy, the entire property feels like an upscale resort with its large concept pool area, outdoor living pavilion, game areas, 5 fire features, 3 outdoor showers, al fresco dining, gas barbecue and poolside chaise lounges. Sophisticated modern style meets 1950s sensibility to create this fabulous outdoor space that certainly has the Wow Factor.

** The pool can be heated upon request for an additional service fee. Please let us know if you'd like the pool heated so we can ensure it is ready before your arrival. If your home has a spa or hot tub, heating the spa or hot tub is included with your rental at no extra cost **

INDOOR LIVING SPACES
Absolutely stunning remodel. This property has been lovingly restored, respecting its architectural pedigree while updating it for how we live today. The renovation preserved the original open-concept floor plan, clerestory windows, polished concrete floors, and iconic post-and-beam ceilings, while giving it a completely “next century” makeover with high-speed internet access, an updated climate-control system, 4 Smart Televisions, and iPod charging stations. The entire front and back of the house feature movable glass walls that blur the line between indoor and outdoor living in true Palm Springs style.

** The term "Pets Allowed” or “Pets Accepted" at an ACME House Company vacation rental means that we welcome dogs only. No other pets are allowed. **

SLEEPING QUARTERS
All of the bedrooms feature ample storage, flat screen televisions and comfortable king-sized mattresses by Casper, the latest in memory foam sleep systems. The primary bedroom features a walk-in closet, a sitting area, direct pool access, and an en suite bath with dual sinks and a deluxe outdoor shower. The two king guest rooms feature their own courtyards - each with a private firepit lounge area, an outdoor shower, and gorgeous mountain views.

THE LOCATION
This spectacular home sits on a quiet residential street in the Little Beverly Hills neighborhood of Palm Springs - an intimate enclave of 84 single-family homes - all built by the Alexander Construction Company (w/ a few Meiselman's on the perimeter) between 1957 and 1959. This very retro, picturesque, walkable community is bordered on two sides by a golf course. The emphasis here is on easy living in the sunshine. The hustle and bustle of Palm Springs seems as though it is miles away from this sleepy little part of town - but grocery stores, casual eating places, sandwich shops, burger joints and Downtown Palm Springs are all just blocks away. You can even walk to the Saturday morning Farmers Market or take in an independent film at the local movie house.

Amazing Property for our family

We had an awesome stay at the West Elm house. Every last detail of this home allowed us to relax and enjoy our stay. We ended up canceling restaurant reservations just to stay and enjoy the back yard and perfect setup. We will be back again!

Very nice place for smaller group or family. Clean and located on a quiet residential street. As a commercial rental, doesn't feel homey, which may or may not be a plus, depending on your point of view. We enjoyed the short bocce court and spa

Christmas in the Desert

West Elm House was a perfect place for us to be together as a family for Christmas! There were 5 of us; there was plenty of room for everyone to be together in one place comfortably and also many different areas inside and out for people to 'get away'. The kitchen had everything we could have wanted - which was important to us - since we would be eating 2 different holiday meals there. It was perfect!

Our Own Resort

Our family of four spent a wonderful five days and nights at the West Elm House: Alexander. It was like having our own resort. The pictures of the house were great and had our hopes up, but arriving in person it was even better that we expected. Inside and out. The house was great. Also, ACME, the property manager, was great. There was an item missing in the kitchen which they had delivered within a few hours. They checked in repeatedly too to see if we needed everything. We would definitely go back and would definitely recommend the West Elm House: Alexander.

An Amazing Staycation!

We visited during an extreme heat wave and were comfortable beyond our expectations! The house stayed cool, the pool was perfect, and we were still able to create an open feeling between the indoor and outdoor areas. The pool gets plenty of shade in the afternoons, but there was also still plenty of areas for sunbathing. The pool cleaner came twice while we were there, which was much appreciated and needed since the wind blows debris into the pool each night. The only issues we had were with the dishwasher, which didn’t seem to get anything clean, although it could’ve been user error. There were also very few kitchen utensils for cooking, but we made it work! First world problems. We would stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Acme!

Reviewer Comments: Upon arrival the house was spotless, the air conditioner had been turned on(the house was a cool 74°) the house was well-equipped and comfortable. The location was perfect, wonderful restaurants within walking distance. The management company provided excellent service. When we arrived I had noticed a little debris in the swimming pool from the night before, I made one phone call and left a message, they had a pool cleaning service out to clean the pool by the end of the day. They cleaned the pool on the daily basis. Our activities consisted of, lying in the pool, eating, playing Rummy cube and just having a wonderful time. The neighborhood was very quiet and that was very appreciated. I would recommend this house to anyone that wants to relax and have a great time.

Relaxing stay in Mid century modern dream

We had the best stay at the West Elm house! The home is absolutely beautiful and super clean. Beds are very comfy and the backyard is perfection! We loved how the pool had a nice shallow pad which was perfect for our kids, age 2 and 5. The pool area is shaded around 3pm, which was nice, even though it was only in the mid 80s during our stay. The flowering plants near the pool smelled wonderful which was a nice surprise. It was all just so dreamy and wonderful that my husband and I decided we would most definitely want to stay here again in the fall. We didn’t want to leave!

Exceeded All Expectations

In the current pandemic environment, we set a goal of finding a house that, once we arrived, we wouldn't want to leave. The backyard (pool, putting green, bacci court, hammock and numerous seating/hangout areas) and overall layout of the home with separate patio areas for each bedroom exceeded this requirement. It was close to grocery stores and the downtown area for our quick runs out for take out and food supplies. We will definitely be back to this home whenever our travels take us back to Palm Springs.

Well equipped & fun property in Palm Springs

We had a ton of fun at the house! There is a bocce court, pool, outdoor fire places, mini putt - it is super fun. Rooms are all west elm decorated, which wasn’t my personal taste but everything was super comfortable and well thought out! I would recconend this house to anyone!!

Perfection in Palm Springs

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at the West Elm: Alexander House. Everything was spotless upon arrival. The property is located in a quiet residential street with minimal noise from neighbors. The yard is designed to get maximum morning and afternoon shade, meaning we could enjoy the yard in the middle of summer with adequate shade. From 3pm the pool is almost entirely shaded which made a big difference for the kids, especially in the peak of summer. The tanning shelf (shallow end) is large enough for younger kids to enjoy and the water feature was very popular. Note that the desert can be drying to kid's skin so bring plenty of moisturizer. Inside, the house has everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Upon arrival, there were four chilled margarita glasses in the freezer - a great touch. The outdoor ice machine was a huge hit for both adults and kids. We used the big outdoor dining table outside on the cooler evenings. If there was one thing we would add to the kitchen it would be an ice cream scoop :-) We had only a few minor issues during our stay, ie. the WiFi played up when we arrived but Acme were quick to remedy this for us. Ditto for some smaller issues such as running out of dish liquid. A bottle was promptly left at our front door. Overall, highly recommend this property and we would stay again in a heartbeat. Wonderful vacation!

We loved this house and had a wonderful stay. It was even better in person than in the pictures. Everything was clean and the furnishings were new and well taken care of. We plan to return!
