I arrived to find the property looking as though it had been looted. Piles of trash and construction debris were scattered across the front of the hotel and one of the street accessible suites had been left open allowing anyone full access to the hotel while not a single staff member or employee was present to protect the property. Given the lack of service and security that were not provided I immediately asked the hotel for a refund and was told that I would not receive it. My exchanges with the staff, who did not have a the decency to call me, instead relying on the messaging service provided through Expedia, were combative and unprofessional from their very first response. That I still have not received my refund from either the hotel or Expedia is wholly unacceptable.

Hello Thomas - we are somewhat challenged in our response to your review - in part due to the facts.We wish to start by saying that our hotel is a small, 10 room locally owned business - we, like others in our great desert city, have been challenged by COVID and are finding new ways to operate in the world we find ourselves. We've been lucky not to have to change very much, however, we do need guests to understand that we aren't a 100 staff large hotel - and staying with us means a partnership between us and the operating processes we have put in place. We clearly state in our booking pages and confirmations that our check in time is 3pm - and that early check in is possible with prior arrangement. We also explain that our front desk is part-virtual - there are times during the day that our small hotel requires the team to get supplies etc and our best time to do that is between check out and check in.We'd also like to highlight to anyone reading this that 14 of the last 15 reviews made on here scored the maximum ratings possible - which we thank everyone for their continued support.Before we go into your statements we want to note that you arrived, unannounced, at the hotel around 11:45am. 3 hours 15 mins before check in began. We had just had a fully booked weekend and our guests from the night before checked out at 11am. The housekeeper was on site going about the hard job of turning our hotel around and ready for the days new guests and the staff member on front desk was out picking up important supplies for our Pantry and Happy Hour.- We are alarmed to hear you think we look like we had been looted - we could not see the same perspective but we do know that one of the front suites is having some renovation and we informed you that the construction waste would be moved prior to 3pm check in time, and it was.- The suite you mention that had been left open, was intentional. The housekeeper had opened the room to do her initial check and had gone to the laundry to get supplies. This is not a safety or security issue - the room had no guests in it and was in the process of being cleaned. You also mention there was no employee to 'protect' the hotel - there was an employee (housekeeper) but she is not there to protect the property - but we do have locks and cameras and they held up well considering you weren't able to get access to the hotel early.- You also mentioned we weren't available - when you sent us a message we replied exactly 1 minute later with a response - kindly stating we were at the store and could check you in approx 130pm (earlier than normal) - which you found to be absolutely terrible and insisted we refund your room.- In our exchanges, we never said we would not refund your room. In fact, our hotel hasn't taken any money for your room yet - it still sits with Expedia - what we were trying to do is understand the reasoning for your refund - none of which we could see were the hotels fault. Loved loved loved my stay at the Westcott…from the fun vintage decore/vibe throughout the property, to the comfortable room that had every necessity covered and the delicious breakfast that was complimentary… I did not want to leave! I can’t say enough about how delightful the owner, Matthew, was as well… take my word for it.. the hotel is wonderful! I am definitely coming back and highly recommend it!

This was such a unique little gem of a space in Palm Springs. Definitely for the person who appreciates quirky retro vibes and doesn't mind witnessing a vision that's in the process of being brought to life. Mathew was a delightful host and was available and accommodating for our late check-in, and communicative during our stay whenever we had questions. The hot tub and happy hour were very enjoyable.

Such a beautiful space! It was lovely waking up and seeing the bright blue pool in the courtyard, with palm trees peeking up into the skyline. My room was clean and the bed was comfy. Matthew, the owner and host, was so sweet and welcoming to me, which made me feel at home while traveling alone. The only downside to the location was that it wasn't quite walking distance to anything--you still need a car, but that is more of a Palm Springs problem, not a problem with this place specifically.

This place had a 9 rating. Upon arrival it was obvious that it was very run down, lots of stuff that was broken or very worn, joining room doors that did not close, DIY paint patches that didn't match, no heat...it was like a thrift store and a shabby hotel had a baby. Maybe that's your thing but I felt it was a bit over sold and reviews are a bit suspect. Sorry but this place was a hard fail for my wife and I.

Thank you for your feedback which gives us the opportunity to clarify to our future guests what we offer here at our hotel.A couple of things to mention up front. Firstly, you didn’t actually stay at our hotel - we understand that it may not have been for you but our offering is far more than our building and our guests experience service and relaxed atmosphere is different to other hotels. We have lots of reviews from people who experienced our full service for people to review.We also ask guests to make sure they know what to expect when they arrive - we are a small. 10 room independently owned bed and breakfast. Our hotel has a mix of old and new and we know that’s not everyone’s taste. But we aren’t trying to be everything to everyone and in a city like Palm Springs we are so fortunate to have many wonderfully different independent hotels that there is sure to be one to meet your expectations.We also know that as the hotel wasn’t your style you also wanted a full refund - at that late stage in the afternoon it’s hard for us as a small business to resell a room - and if you had given us the chance to fix anything that you thought was unacceptable we would been able to compensate to make things right. We did try our best to be fair and refund the rest of your stay based on your not liking the style of our hotel. Addressing the joining door in your suite - we could have very quickly come and closed and locked that for you - which must’ve been an oversight from the party the prior night which had the rooms as a two bedroom suite. We always have room to improve and we will do our best to paint, update furniture and repair anything broken - we appreciate that we always need to look at these things when we are buying older antique pieces. We’re sorry our little hotel wasn’t for you - or that we weren’t able to have a conversation to understand exactly what made you so unhappy within those first few minutes - but at least we can address things with your review and also be open with our future guests about what to expect. Antique furniture and the 30s relaxed vibe we deliver isn’t for everyone - but when it’s a match we do everything we can to deliver an amazing experience. We wish you all the best in your future accommodation searches in Palm Springs.

This is one special bed & breakfast. With just 10 units surrounding a pool and hot tub, , it’s a quaint place with free breakfast and happy hour, including gourmet food & drink that went above and beyond what any of us expected. It’s obvious from all the beautiful design work and attention detail that Matthew loves what he does. We actually had a terrible storm during my stay and he was out in the cold and rain doing his best to get the power back on. A minor hiccup in an overall amazing stay. Highly recommended!

I contacted the property prior to leaving home to let them know we would be arriving to Palm Springs early. Matt responded and said no problem, and we could check in as soon as we arrived. The place was charming and we were treated warmly by the staff. The breakfast had a variety of items. And the happy hour was perfect to get our evening started. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great kitchy boutique hotel with tons of character and loving touches. The large suite had its own private patio and entrance, the bed was UNBELIEVABLY comfortable and had the softest sheets, and the location ensured a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The owner, Matthew, was incredibly charming, attentive and responsive and really made my stay so amazing. I loved that in addition to laying out a breakfast spread in the morning with bagels, pastries, cereals, and yogurts, there were refridgerated cases with snacks, drinks, juices, and fresh fruit that were available 24/7. Great free parking right in front and close to everything. I'll definitely be back!

A very cute property, but neglected; the coffee machine didn’t work properly, the espresso machine was dry and dirty There were nice ceramic mugs, refrigerated milks, but the general beverage area is grimy and nothing works properly. The hair dryer in the room was full of lint and old and chipped A little maintainance, a fresh coat of paint would go a long way toward upgrading the experience. The room was fine.

Best place to stay in Palm Springs!
The Westcott is an amazing place . Its part hotel, part B&B , part like visiting family . The pool is perfect , rooms are nicely updated , the free happy hour appies and drinks are a bonus, but it really comes down to the hosts :Matt & Selina (Celina) They're gracious , friendly, generous and truly feel like they are family. They go above and beyond to make sure that you are comfortable and enjoying your stay.

They are doing such a great job but somehow they can’t see all the stuff everywhere from a guest perspective. Beds great, cleanliness superb, coffee machine wasn’t consistent, breakfast items in the sun all morning, the hot tub was luke warm. Trying to do too much. If the extra stuff and leftover items from refurb were removed we would be back in a heartbeat.

thanks for your feedback - in a small property like ours we are often faced with the challenge of how we make improvements 'behind the scenes' when there are no behind the scenes spaces to work. the areas you highlighted are of course all now complete. our coffee machine in the pantry is an espresso bean to cup and can be a little temperamental - we usually get to it pretty fast though. In your suite, which we gave you a free upgrade to on arrival from the standard room you booked, was a brand new super automatic espresso machine which was working and fully stocked - we are surprised you didn't make use of that daily as it was right there in your own kitchen. When we spoke at the nightly happy hours everything seemed good with your stay - we wish you had spoken to us about what would have made you enjoy your stay here so we could have had the ability to fix things rather than read about later - we work so hard to make sure every guest really does enjoy their stay and not feel the need to give us a low rating. We address things immediately (As we have done now with the things you outline) - we will always stress to our new guests - we are a small, independently ran local bed and breakfast - we do not feel like a large chain corporate hotel - there is often just one person working and we do everything as quickly as we can - but we do everything with passion and love.

Really friendly staff, and we felt very welcome. It is a small but cute hotel with a few rooms, so it is quiet and not crowded. The cocktail hour was great. The only thing I noticed would be the cleanliness of the hair dryer and the cotton. It doesn't have EV charging in case you are searching for this in the review.

What a relaxing place!
We stayed one night at The Westcott and couldn't have been looked after better. It's a perfect getaway, you feel like it's your own private swimming pool. We were greeted by very friendly staff who were so accommodating, and even found us a room with a tub upon request. They went out of their way to make our stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. There was a free happy hour which was a nice touch, as was the breakfast laid out for us in the morning. You're free to take whatever you need at any time from the kitchen, really loved the casual nature of it all. It's on your own time. We would highly recommend staying here!

Any parent looking for a getaway without kids will appreciate The Westcott. It is a stylish and eclectic adults only boutique hotel that feels like your own backyard. Matthew, the owner goes above and beyond to make your visit comfortable and relaxing. All rooms are poolside with lots of places to lounge. The happy hour at the space was so nice and breakfast was perfect. My husband and I came for a staycation and now I’m not sure if we will ever stay anywhere but here when we come to Palm Springs. We can’t wait to return.

We loved the Westcott! We were looking for something a little lower key, yet fun. This boutique setting with antique pieces and photos of old movie stars sets the ambiance. Our room was nicely equipped with bright white towels, small fridge for extra refreshments, and a comfortable bed. Five steps out your door and ready to hit the lounge chair poolside. It was awesome being able to pop in out of your room for needs. The morning breakfast and evening Hors D'oeuvres with drinks hit the spot. Mathew, the proprietor, would even surprise you during the day with a nice cool treat and drink. The bar area has fruit, bars, and other drink assortments that all come with your stay. Want your room spruced up daily, or not touched at all, your choice. Locationally just a short distance from downtown made it easy to walk from there and explore. We will be back.

Clean, Quaint & Charming
The charm of this property to me is that it’s very comforting and relaxing. I stayed in a newly renovated deluxe room which was especially fresh and clean. The 24/7 Pantry is well-stocked and convenient to find complimentary snacks and drinks while lounging by the pool. The overnight oats and yogurt with fresh berries were great for breakfast. The Happy Hour was a perfect start to the evening. Last but not least, the owner of this desert charmer, Mathew, does a lot to make you feel welcomed and valued as a guest. The staff was also very accommodating. As a solo traveler, I felt safe and appreciated its convenient location to trailheads and a nearby park. I look forward to returning for another peaceful stay!

One of the worst hotels I’ve ever experienced
The owner of the hotel was sick, which I am sorry for, but apparently he didn’t think to have a backup plan and he had “friends” and cleaning crew “helping”. The place is run down, air conditioning completely inadequate for the climate, and there was either old food or God knows what on the floor of the room. The room was tiny, just barely bigger than the king bed. The “friends” were smoking and drinking right outside our door. It was just a miserable experience. I ended up asking for a refund from Hotels.com and booking somewhere else. RED FLAG DO NOT STAY HERE! I suspect the reviews are either fake or written by these “friends” of the owner. He has no business running a hotel.

We can assure you that after 6 years in business and surviving the pandemic which challenged the industry in our city that our reviews are never fake - and we appreciate every one of them. Your experience was not typical at our hotel and we know that you chose not to stay and also have been issued a full refund. Sometimes, in a small business which takes 24/7 management, a passionate owner can get sick like any other person - and although we are sure in a day or two will be back to normal everyone did their best to support the hotel in this time. Often our guests return time after time and feel like family - we do forget that sometimes not everyone will feel that way and share compassion when something like sickness can hinder operations or your vacation. We are glad you found a place to stay and we can reassure our guests that we never stop working to ensure the best experience - and we recognize and refund when that doesn't happen, thankfully a scenario which is rare.

You feel like you are staying at a friend’s house. There is a happy hour and breakfast; both by the pool. Each room has a small table and chairs outside, we ate take out on ours. Matthew is a wonderful host, he gies the extra mile for the guests.

We're always sorry to see when a guest feels they have to leave us such an impactful and low rating. We try our very best to ensure everything is wonderful for guests when they stay and obviously we were not able to meet your standards. April is indeed one of the more expensive times to visit Palm Springs and our rates, like the whole city, are higher than usual to reflect that. Our building is indeed old, built in 1934, but we feel less than tired and remain motivated every day to take care of our guests and keep working to restore our beautiful old hotel. We're sorry ours wasnt a match for you and wish you all the best in your hotel searches in the future.
