See inspiring dance performances, browse fine arts exhibitions and admire dramatic neoclassical architecture in Santo Domingo’s cultural center.

The Palace of Fine Arts provides a home for dance, theatre and art exhibits in Santo Domingo. Take a moment to appreciate the cultural wealth of the city as you walk around the large grounds of the palace or attend one of many events and exhibitions held throughout the year.

The palace was built in 1956. Today it is an impressive monument to the city’s arts scene.

Bring your camera to capture the building’s neoclassical façade. Simple columns, modern windows and a domed roof are given a distinct Caribbean flavour by the pastel colour scheme of beige and bright blue. Get the best views of the building from the lawns out front, which are adorned with palms and rose gardens.

The Palace of Fine Arts houses a number of Santo Domingo’s main art institutions, including the School of Visual Arts. Browse exhibitions and retrospectives of the Caribbean’s most influential artists.

Book a ticket for a dance performance from the Folkloric Ballet or the National Dance School. Listen to classical music at shows by the National Choir or the National Symphony Orchestra. Drama enthusiasts won’t be disappointed, with frequent acts performed by the Fine Arts Theatre. Book tickets to performances in advance online or over the phone.

The palace is located close to El Malecon, the city’s oceanfront promenade. Stroll along the boardwalk before or after your visit to enjoy an ice cream in a park, see a movie at a local cinema or sing in karaoke bars at night. Restaurants and bars line the boardwalk serving local dishes and international cuisine.

Access the Palace of Fine Arts on foot from around the Santo Domingo port. The cultural hub is a short walk from the Guibia Public Beach. Admission is free, although individual performances charge entry.
