The Kiwi House Wildlife Park lets you meet New Zealand's national bird and other native creatures up close. Nearby Waitomo Caves offer magical boat rides beneath thousands of glowworms that illuminate the darkness like stars.
One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, fantastic food and very relaxing experience. My only complaint is that the LED lights always glow when you switch the lights off, so there should be a master switch or a light cover on the lights.

You want top allow a full day (and 2 nights) to explore the adjacent peninsula, as the roads are slow and windy but the forests and ocean views and experiences are fantastic. Thanks Garth for the different recommendations about where best to explore. We avoided the theme parks in Rotorua and enjoyed Orakei thermals. Paeroa has some interesting antique stores and the adjacent gorge and gold mine were very pretty.

This was such a clean and well looked after accommodation. Check in was a breeze, the cleanliness was great and to top it off, I got to pat a fluffy cat. My son was thoroughly impressed with having his own tv.

We had no idea what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. Friendly owner and the room was very clean with nice little shabby chic touches. We went to the attached restaurant and had a nice meal with a large garden out the back for the child to run! Large naughts and crosses game to play. Overall very good! Nice drive out to Waitanguru falls. Quite a drive to Waitomo caves. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic place to stay. The bed was a little hard for our liking but hey thatâs the beauty and unknowns when staying else where. Super clean and convenient. Excellent hosts and great breakfast collection. We will def be back
