If it's your first time travelling during the COVID-19 outbreak, you'll notice a host of new rules and restrictions in place. Follow these tips and make your getaway to Orchid Island a smooth one:

• Before locking in your flight, check if any travel restrictions apply — in both your origin and destination. Stay informed with the latest updates by checking government and airport websites.
• Wear a face mask during airport screening. A TSA employee will ask you to temporarily lower your mask for ID purposes.
• Instead of handing a TSA agent your boarding pass, place it directly on the scanner yourself. When that's done, hold it up for inspection.
• TSA now permits passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will need to be removed from your bag at the X-ray machine for scanning.
• Remove items from your pockets, like your keys, phone and wallet, and place them in your carry-on rather than the bins. This will reduce handling during screening.
• Separate any food you have for X-ray screening. Placing it in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA employee to handle and inspect your belongings.
