1932 Charming Cottage at the Lake

ATV or snowmobile from the driveway to trails 4 blocks away. LOCATION! LOCATION! Street dead ends in front of the house and becomes short pathway to one of the largest sandy beaches of Lake Superior. 1932 cottage has been restored and renovated including 28 new blinds and a newly carpeted upstairs 400 sq ft open living and sleeping area with new bathroom overlooking the habitat of trees that separate the house from the big Lake. The 1932 hardwood maple floors have been restored on main floor and bathroom has been renovated but original tub with shower remains. Adjacent bedroom has sliding glass doors to a small patio overlooking the side yard firepit and peekaboo lake views. The front porch with 12 windows and front door separate entrance can be used as the 3rd bedroom. Relax on the down filled sofa and pull out memory foam queen mattress and have breakfast on the 4 top table with the morning sun. Everyone's favorite room in the house. Dining room table comfortably seats 8 and plenty of dishware in china cabinets. Enjoy the large new rear deck and step down and build a fire in the side yard firepit while you barbeque or make a fire on the beach while watching the sunset. Stay up late and you may see the Northern Lights. 125 foot driveway that ends at alley for alternate exit, plenty of room to park cars, trucks, ATVs and snowmobiles, direct access to trails from the house. Walk on the beach or drive to Township Park one mile away. Take a 5 minute stroll to Main Street (River Street) and stop at famous Syl's cafe, Krist gas station/minimart, shops, Stubbs Museum bar, etc. Ontonagon River is 4 blocks away where you can fish, kayak, rent a pontoon or boat. Waterfalls are nearby and the largest state park the Porcupine Mountains including the Lake of the Clouds where fall colors are spectacular is a 25 minute drive. Lake of the Clouds was featured on September 24, 2022 when USA Today announced the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as the 2022 1st Best Destination for Fall Foliage in the US. In the winter, take advantage of lake effect snowfall. Why trailer your snowmobile when you can sled to the trails from a 125' driveway. Location! Location! Ski the Porkies 20 minutes away.

Older cottage but cute and well kept. Good for families as separate bedrooms and bathrooms are private. Good location, within easy walking distance to downtown. Close to Porcupine Mountain State Park. Would recommend.

Adorable bungalow on Lake Superior
Incredible place to enjoy on Lake Superior. The location is perfect for sunrise and sunset beach walks and a quick jaunt to Stubb's Museum Bar (coolest watering hole in the county), the beds were super comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes. The hosts really thought of everything. Absolutely love this place and will 💯 stay here again!

Comfortable and clean
This was a good location to explore the Porcupine Mountains from. There were alot of pans and appliances to use. We appreciated being able to bring our dogs and they liked the beach. The upstairs bathroom was nice. It is an older home with original woodwork but could use some updating. some updating some updatbathroom

Cute cottage
Adorable cottage! Love the updated bathroom in the upstairs. Only one suggestion: the key to the front door basically doesn't work because it's worn. We left it unlocked and only used the entry door since it was a code lock and easy to use:)

Short Walk to the Beach
Make sure you read the description of this 3 bedroom cottage very carefully. The upstairs bedroom with updated bathroom was spacious and nice. The bedroom downstairs has limited space but clean. The main living area is small with seating for maybe 3 people but there is a big dining table to enjoy. There are a lot of books and games to choose from. I was disappointed that there was not a 3rd bedroom but instead pullout couch on the enclosed porch. I should have read the description more carefully. The kitchen has it challenges with very low counters but it was well stocked. Pans were on the thin side. My husband and two adult sons did appreciate the backyard with chairs and firewood provided. While you are very close to the lake, there is not what I would call a beach view. We did enjoy the short walk to the beach in the evening and saw a gorgeous sunset. We also enjoyed a short walk to Roxey's in the evening for dinner a couple of times. I took a walk on the beach one foggy morning and had it all to myself. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and really enjoyed the quiet small town atmosphere along the lake.

So close to everything!
Very clean and cozy for family. Great firepit in backyard, and a new deck to enjoy morning coffee... but you might want to take a very short walk to the Lake Superior sandy beach to have your coffee at sunrise or cocktail at sunset. Perfect home base for our exploration of 24 waterfalls!

Perfect location
This was long way to travel but we knew it would be worth it and it was. Bonfire location in the yard was our meeting place, we brought our own wood but excellent wood was provided and a very pleasant surprise. Beds were comfortable, lots to do in the area, wildlife was a pleasure to wake up to. The best fishing, hiking and rockhounding we won't forgot anytime soon.

Charming but a few snags
Very cute & clean property with GREAT walking access to Lake Superior. Only snags were ants in food cupboard and leaking ceiling in main floor bathroom. Notified property mgr of both issues and they apologized, offered to remedy the ant problem immediately and ultimately refunded part of our stay. Would definitely stay here again if the snags were fixed. Property mgr very easy to access & work with.

It’s all about location!
This older house is just a short walk from beautiful Lake Superior. The air is crisp, clean and there is no better healing for your soul than to breathe deep and experience it’s calming presence. Host furnishes everything for a comfy stay, nice towels, soaps, paper products, firewood for beach campfire, even camp/bag chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped, I even found a rolling pin. The tri-clad bottom stainless pans are new…NOT scratched up teflon. There’s a brand new deck for relaxing on. The dining room table was huge enough for the four of us to work the 1000 piece jig saw puzzle and still eat dinner. The local IGA does sell fresh, locally caught Whitefish and lake trout, if you can’t catch your own. 😋 The lighthouse tour was well worth the $5, there are two stores selling locally made gifts and a nice rock shop. And we learned, you can find the fluorescing sodalite (Yooperlites) on the rocky beaches near Ontonagon. The folks in Grand Marais, MI say they are exclusive to their beach, ha ha. We hope to come back!

Great little place
The property is very cute. Two bedrooms, two baths. Near Lake Superior. Because it was during the off season we had the whole beach to ourselves to let the dogs run and run. Our stay was too short. Would go back again.
