Imagine; the tree was a mere seedling when King Solomn built his temple in Jerusalem, a sapling when Christ was born. The General generates enough wood each year to produce a 60-foot tall tree of average size. Dozens of giant sequoia are neighbors to the General; the half-mile downhill trail into the Giant Forest offers access to the General and all the beautiful and hardy creatures. Just be aware returning to the parking lot requires a gentle, uphill walk. It was certainly worth the trip. The units were actual house trailers, RVs, and teepees. We stayed in the "Deluxe Queen" room with kitchenette. It was fine, and the bed was very comfortable, but having the kitchen sink in the bathroom was a bit odd.

What a fun adventure to stay in a Tipi! It was 35 degrees the night we stayed and with the heater and the blankets we slept well and were not cold. The staff are great, and the experience is memorable! I would highly recommend.

This is a very unique hotel experience in the desert, which I absolutely loved. The manager, Alice, was also the cook and waitress. She was so friendly, and we had great conversations during my stay. The room was recently renovated and was very comfortable. I liked the porch, where I could sit and look at the mountains and the desert. I kind of wish I stayed in a teepee.

Alice in the café was remarkably helpful and friendly. Tipi was a cool experience; clean & comfortable inside. Bathrooms are clean and close by. Food in the café is good and reasonably priced (for CA). Pro-tip if your tipi has an evaporative cooler: ask for ice to put in it; it’ll cool the tipi right down.

The front desk person was wonderful! Friendly, welcoming and helpful! It was a little difficult to see the room number in the dark (we arrived late), but once we found it the room was great! Very clean, with everything you might need. The bed was super soft and my pillow felt like "home". Love the decor!!

Very pleasant place to stay

One of the electrical outlets didn't work, but a worker assisted me with a workaround for plugging in my CPAP. The room was clean and comfortable. The food at the Cafe was good. The hot water for the bathroom sink was very hot, so be careful with that.

We spent a night in a family cottage (2 queen beds and kitchenette). We didn't use the kitchen, but noticed that it was equipped. The room and the bathroom are spacious and adapted for a family of 4 people. Unfortunately, the cleaning up has been forgotten. The sheets and towels have been changed, but the floors and some othe surfaces were still dirty. I had to borrow a broom in the café to clean a minimum. We recieved the apologises, but the hotel didn't offr us a discount of any kind. We had dinner at the café. It was not exceptional nor cheap, but it was helpful after a day spent in the Death Valley. We were cold during the night, because the blankets are too thin and not sufficient to keep you warm in November and the heating is too noisy to keep going while sleeping. The place is not far from the Death Valley Park, which is very helpful while travelling with children and we appreciated that.

Olancha RV Park and Motel is in a unique and beautiful location. The sunrise in the mountains was amazing. The motel is in module houses and is clean with good heating. The restaurant and some motel trailers were under construction at the time. The restaurant (Olancha Cafe) was still working while the renovations were going on and the food was delicious!
