The best area to stay in Oberkoditz is the area immediately surrounding the historic market square, Marktplatz.

This central area is the heart of Oberkoditz, characterised by its traditional half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. Marktplatz itself is home to the Rathaus (town hall) and the historic St. Michaelis Kirche (St. Michael's Church), making it a focal point for the town's heritage. Many of the town's best restaurants and independent shops are located directly on or just off this square, making everything easily accessible on foot.

Couples looking for a relaxing and culturally rich experience will find this area particularly appealing. You're perfectly situated to explore the town's historical sites, enjoy leisurely meals at local eateries, and simply soak in the traditional Thuringian atmosphere.

The best time to visit Oberkoditz depends on whether you prefer warm-weather activities or winter sports and festivities.

For those who enjoy warmer weather and outdoor pursuits, the months of May through September are ideal. During this period, the Thuringian Forest is superb for hiking and cycling, with trails well-maintained and the scenery at its most lush. Temperatures are pleasant, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it comfortable for exploring the local villages and historical sites. You'll also find many local festivals and markets taking place during the summer, offering a chance to experience regional culture.

If you're a fan of winter sports or enjoy a festive atmosphere, then December to March is the best time to visit. The Thuringian Forest transforms into a snowy landscape, offering opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing. The Christmas markets in nearby towns, particularly in December, are a major draw, providing a traditional German holiday experience with artisanal crafts and seasonal treats.
