"Pension Barbara is a very cosy and clean pension right next to the paths leading up to The Brocken. The hostess was very sweet and attentive, and we had a good stay. Schierke as a town is a bit dated and quiet in the autumn, when we visited. Is was difficulty to find a place to just have a couple of drinks etc. The national park, Brocken and paths are all excellent for a short hiking-holiday. Great nature, chalenging paths (if you want it), nice restaurant on the summit."

"Sehr schönes Hotel, wir hatten ein großes und ansprechendes Doppelzimmer im dritten Stock. Es war sehr leise, von innen aber auch von außen ( obwohl zur Seite mit der Bundesstraße gelegen ). Sehr schicker und großer Wellnesbereich mit tollem Pool, hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Auch das Frühstück war sehr gut, uns hat hier nichts gefehlt. "At first I was a bit surprised at staying in the dark yellow painted, deep red curtained and darkwood themed Africa room (135) but it grew on me. The patio area was pretty dark though. Breakfast was great but no restaurant for an evening meal nor a bar which was a shame.
