10/10 Excellent

"Great stay. Second visit. Just as good the second time. The staff are magnificent and make the whole trip worthwhile. Once you are on the estate you don't have to drive. The internal buggy/ cars are great."

The Lodges at Kilkea Castle

8/10 Good

"A lovely family breakaway at Kilkea Castle Lodges We had a lovely stay at Kilkea Castle Lodges for our first little breakaway as a family of three with our 3-month-old daughter. The lodge was a great size, and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfast in the clubhouse, the beautiful grounds and the spa facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really appreciated having a cot and water provided on request. We did have a small issue one rainy evening when the safety latch on the door to Lodge 352 locked us out, but the staff responded immediately and were very helpful in resolving it. There are a few minor areas for improvement. The steps at the entrance to the lodge mean it isn’t easily accessible for prams or wheelchair users, which is worth considering for families with young babies and guests with mobility needs. The door to Lodge 352 was also difficult to close and required a loud bang, which wasn’t ideal when trying not to wake a sleeping baby. We noticed draughts coming in through the windows and patio door, particularly on a very windy night. Providing kitchen roll or a tea towel in the kitchen would also be a useful addition for drying cups and dishes. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and loved the setting, the lodge and the warm hospitality. With a few small improvements, it would be even better. We would happily return and look forward to visiting again!"

Kildare House Hotel

8/10 Good

"Room was clean but dated. The bed was soft and uncomfortable so didn’t sleep well. Staff were very polite and helpful. Evening meal and cooked breakfast was excellent. Car parking was limited. The hotel was good value for money and they going through an upgrade. Hopefully if we stay again the rooms will be modern and more comfortable."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nurney?

The best area to stay in Nurney, County Kildare, is directly within the village itself for a truly authentic experience, or in the nearby town of Kildare for more amenities and easy access.

Nurney village offers a peaceful, rural setting. It's a small, close-knit community, ideal for those seeking a quiet escape and a taste of traditional Irish village life. You'll find a local pub and a church, which are often the heart of such communities. This area is great for couples looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle, with opportunities for gentle walks in the surrounding countryside.

For travellers who appreciate more dining and shopping options, Kildare Town is an excellent alternative, just a short drive from Nurney. Kildare Town is home to the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens, which are popular attractions. It also features a larger selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops, including the well-known Kildare Village outlet shopping centre.

When is the best time to go to Nurney?

The best time to visit Nurney, County Kildare, is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally mildest and the days are long.

These months offer the most pleasant conditions for exploring the beautiful Kildare countryside and enjoying outdoor activities. You'll find the gardens and equestrian estates in full bloom, making for particularly scenic visits. For those interested in horse racing, the major race meetings at The Curragh and Punchestown are held during this period, adding to the excitement.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will appreciate the longer daylight hours, great for leisurely strolls through the Japanese Gardens or exploring the historic Rock of Cashel, which is a comfortable drive away. The warmer temperatures also make outdoor dining and enjoying a pint in a local pub more agreeable.

Families will find the summer months especially convenient. With school holidays, it's an ideal time for trips to attractions like the Kildare Maze or the Irish National Stud, both of which offer plenty to keep younger visitors entertained.
