"Very cute apartment over 3 floors with a small but fully stocked kitchen. Good air con on top 2 floors. Short steep walk (7 mins) to the top of motovun. You check in at a restaurant up the hill and one of the staff then takes you to the apartment. Free parking nearby. Only real negatives were the shower cubicle which was way too small and quite a few mozzies in the evening when drinking wine on the terrace…"

Lone Hotel by Maistra Collection

10/10 Excellent

"Beautiful property, unique architecture and the walkway by the sea was lovely. Beach and pools were beautiful"

The Melegran

10/10 Excellent

"The staff are the most helpful, positive and sweet people that I have encountered in the hotels. Milena was a lifesaver. Any problem you would report immediately was taken care of. We are so pleased with our experience here. Thank you to everyone at melegran!"

Eden Hotel by Maistra Collection

8/10 Good

"The room was clean and towels were refreshed daily. Buffet breakfast and dinner in the hotel were good. The Oleander restaurant was also good but in the trees so bug spray is needed. The water in the main pool was colder than the sea, and the spa pool was cool despite, supposedly, being heated. The staff were great and many made a fuss of our 4 year old. There is no local bus or hotel shuttle to the Old Town. This is only a short walk for adults but several times we returned to the hotel by taxi (never charged more than 10 Euros though). All in all, this is an excellent location and a great holiday destination. Airport transfers were excellent, booked through Maistra link."

Hotel Ville Park Premium - Sava Hotels & Resorts

10/10 Excellent

"Don’t be put off by the lack of reviews - this place is great. Recently done out. Rooms immaculate. Dining hall the same and a great variety of food. Wonderful seafront location with delightful walk to Piran and Portoroz nearby the other way. Staff all really helpful. Great pool just by the sea. Lovely little row of gift shops between the rooms and the pool area. Only thing was you had to pay for sun loungers but I think quite a few places do that in Italy. We were two adults and three children who came for a rest after travelling for a week and it was brilliant."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nova Vas?

The best area to stay in Nova Vas, Istria, is within the village itself, particularly around the central square and the surrounding quiet lanes.Nova Vas is a small, traditional Istrian village offering a peaceful retreat. The village centre is characterised by stone houses, a charming church, and a few local eateries. It's an excellent base for exploring the wider Istrian region, with easy access to the coastal towns and inland attractions, yet it retains a distinctly rural and relaxed feel.Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find Nova Vas ideal. The village's quiet streets and local taverns offer a relaxed pace, superb for unwinding. You can enjoy strolls through the olive groves and vineyards right on your doorstep, or take short drives to nearby hilltop towns for scenic views and wine tasting. For families, staying in a villa or guesthouse just outside the immediate village centre can be a great option. Many properties in this area come with private gardens and swimming pools, providing plenty of space for children to play.

When is the best time to go to Nova Vas?

The best time to visit Nova Vas largely depends on your priorities, but generally, late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) offer the most pleasant experience. For those looking to enjoy the Istrian coast and outdoor activities without the peak summer crowds, May and June are ideal. The weather is warm and sunny, great for exploring the nearby beaches and cycling trails, but not excessively hot. You'll find most attractions, restaurants, and wineries are fully open, but the atmosphere is more relaxed than in July and August.Couples seeking a romantic getaway or food and wine enthusiasts will particularly appreciate September and October. The summer crowds have thinned, but the sea is still warm enough for swimming in early September. This period is great for vineyard tours, truffle hunting excursions, and enjoying the region's culinary delights, as it's harvest season for grapes and truffles.
