Bait-and-Switch, Mold, Bees
The owner was responsive to communication, but that is where the positive ends. The listing states that "up to 2 cats" are allowed in their pet policy. We reserved this home several months in advance with the owner's knowledge that we were bringing a cat and nothing was said to us about it. About 2 hours before we were to check-in we received an e-mail stating that: "In full transparency, we're a little weary to have a cat staying at the house...due to my severe allergies and sensitivity to cat litter...so as long as you can ensure the cat is house broken and does not leave behind traces of spray or dander..." . These concerns should have been addressed when we reserved the home several months before. There is a daily pet fee, but they want you to make sure your pet does not leave behind traces of spray or dander. This old house has been partially renovated as stated/shown. What you can't see or smell is that the house REEKS of toxic must, mold, and mildew. We immediately smelled mold upon entering the home, the fans were on in each room and there were plug-ins in each room trying to mask the smell. Upon entering the master bedroom we noticed there were numerous dead bees under the windows. That is when we realized there are no window screens. One day a bee came through a closed and locked window which we had to kill. When we stripped the bed before check-out we discovered there are huge stains on the mattress (unsanitary and disgusting). Where is the recourse for travelers who are deceived? Had we known what we know now we never would have rented this home. The owners are worried about pet dander when their home is full of toxic must, mold, mildew and it isn't safe to open the screenless windows to get fresh air. Even though we did nothing wrong, followed instructions, and left the house cleaner than what we found it (cleaning up dead bees, etc.) this owner has withheld giving us positive feedback..
