I booked this hotel because I wanted a good hotel within easy walking distance of the station. It certainly met that requirement, being just across the road. It's also in the middle of a good shopping district, with a convenience store just around the corner.
Reception is on the 2nd floor, where I was warmly greeted and checked in quickly and courteously. I was also given a token to use in the vending machines located on various floors.
I had a single room on the 10th floor, which would have had a view if the windows hadn't been iced up in the ongoing snow storm (that's Niigata in winter). The room itself was quite compact, but had all the amenities I needed, The bed was comfortable and the free wifi was fine. The flat screen TV only had local channels though, and there was an electric hot water jug for tea (2 teabags supplied).
The bathroom was quite compact, with a small, deep bathtub (Japanese style) but it met my needs. The hot water was very hot.
The complementary breakfast was served in the restaurant on the 2nd floor and was a quite bountiful buffet, though with mainly Japanese dishes. The helpful staff brought me a knife and fork when I obviously looked a bit puzzled.
If visiting Niigata again (I've been there twice before), I'd certainly stay at the Ramada, if the pricing policy remains as it is now. It's very competitively priced and compares well with other Japanese hotels I have stayed in.
