Entire Lake House on Lake Memphremagog, dead end RD, private. 30 min to Jay Peak
Lake cottage on the South Bay of Lake Memphremagog. Only 5 minutes from downtown Newport yet watching sunrise over the lake or sunset around the fire pit gives you a feeling of seclusion.
-South Bay Fishing Access 4 minutes away -Jay Peak Resort 30 minutes away -Burke Mountain 1 hour away -Stowe 1 hour away - Multiple other Lakes and hiking trails within a 40 minute drive
- The White Owl Cottage is located at the end of a private road with seasonal neighbors. This cottage was built in the 1940's and it was there the name was established. The waters are shallow at this end of the lake (not the best for swimming) but there is 100ft of beach frontage to enjoy with 51 steps down stairs to the water.
- The Cottage has a main floor that is an open concept, with a propane fireplace. Grab a beverage from the coffee bar and walk right to the living room, main bedroom or screened in porch where you can enjoy the sunrise coming up over the lake.
-The basement has been newly redone to include two bedrooms that each have a window facing the lake. The second bathroom has a stand up shower and an open room at the bottom of the stairs with books and games to use.
- Outside there is dining patio set and fire pit with a view of the lake as well as a storage shed that contains different games/toys for guests to use. Top of the stairs is a small deck with more seating to look over the lake.
Guests have access to the entire house, at this time the garage and owners closet in the basement are off limit to guests.
5 minutes from Downtown Newport, multiple restaurants and views, this town is located right on Lake Memphremagog.
The town has on street free parking.
-Parking for 4 vehicles, please stay to the left of the white marking line. The neighbors to the left of the cottage are seasonal in the summer, please do not block their right of way.
-The cottage is surrounded by farming fields, please do not park in the fields and be aware that to make the grass grow the fields are spread with manure 2 times a year.
- The stairs are newly redone but are steep with 51 steps to the bottom.
- The lake water is shallow and "mucky" as the bay was created due to deforestation and the building of a dam in 1883.
-The beach is for guest use with a fire pit and firewood. The dock is the neighbors.
- If you would like additional kayak, canoe or paddle board rentals you are able to rent them from the Great Outdoors in downtown Newport.

Lovely and well equipped home right on the lake. Very peaceful. Located close to the town of Newport and a short drive to explore several nearby towns and hiking and biking trails.
We loved everything about this house… location, cleanliness, decor, fireplace, amazing view, coffee bar and attentive host! Wonderful house to relax and spend time with family!
My family and I had a great time at the home. It was very clean with all the amenities we needed. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe down by the water. Great spot to have a quiet trip.
All enjoyed the Cottage and all it's amenities. 7 people 18-75 and plenty of room to gather or spread out. Enjoyed the games, puzzles, and just relaxing in the clean comfort house.
The property was really nice, the view of the lake and mountains was unbeatable. We enjoyed having kayaks available to go around the lake. The kitchen is pretty big and very well stocked. We really enjoyed our time there and hope to be back soon@
comfortable lodgings in great location for visiting northern Lake Champlain, Vermont locations. As birdwatchers we spent four days exploring birding "hot spots."
We loved the area and location of the house - tucked away in a beautiful part of our country that we were so glad to see and experience. The people of Newport could not have been nicer wherever we went we met friendly nice people. House was clean and well appointed.
This was a fantastic house! Enjoyed everything about our stay. Location on the lake was great and the view was even better in person. House is quietly nestled away, but just a few minutes drive from downtown Newport or 10mins to the highway. Enjoyed the kayaking, grilling, and campfire. Be sure to stop in town for the creemees when you stay!
We had a great time during our stay. The property was easy to find and check-in was very easy. Paige was quick to respond to any of our questions. The house was very clean and there was plenty of space for our group. The ride to Jay Peak was 30 minutes away.
My friends and I were here for two nights. We skied at Jay and then drove back to the house to eat dinner and hangout. The house is perfect for a medium group of people, about 6-8, because there is a large tv to watch movies on and you have a very nice kitchen to cook in. I'd highly suggest this to anyone who's looking for a nice place to stay while skiing. There was a huge winter storm while we were staying, but the drive was still very easy! Overall, definitely would stay here again, it was awesome.
Very clean and comfortable home. Paige contacted before, during and after to be sure all ok. Clean, beds comfy, everything worked and the notes, comments and recommendations made our stay a pleasure.
Thank you Paige.
The house is absolutely gorgeous, plenty of space, tons of things to do with family - board games, kayaks, BEAUTIFUL kitchen, the lake view is astonishing, and the decor in the house is trendy and just perfect. Not to mention that it’s close to the downtown area, we had dinner at the Eastside restaurant (excellent spot), and the maple creemees at Sweet Scoops are a MUST have. We will definitely be back! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Paige was so so nice, and the house worked great for our group (4 kids, 4 adults). We had a fire 2 nights at one of the 2 fire pits, and enjoyed cooking in the big open kitchen, well-stocked for foodies who love cooking. (Side note: could use some non-metal spatulas etc. for use on the non-stick pans!) We also enjoyed playing corn hole (in the shed) and playing board games at the big dining room table. Highly recommend!
I recently stayed at The White Owl Cottage in Newport, Vermont, with my husband for a long holiday weekend and it was a fantastic experience. Nestled at the end of a private road, this charming cottage offered exactly what we we wanted- it was lakefront, quiet, and was updated home for us to relax and recharge.
The location is ideal, offering beautiful views and easy access to the lake while only being a 5 minute drive into town. The kayaks and canoes provided were a delightful addition, and we thoroughly enjoyed paddling on the peaceful water. The host was responsive with any questions throughout the stay which was very much appreciated.
For future improvements, the main floor bedroom does not have an in-window AC unit and while that is okay, it would be better (and allow for more air flow) if the ceiling fan was not connected to the light. For the fan to be on, the light had to be on. It wasn’t a deal breaker by any stretch but prevented us from using the fan during the night when we needed it most.
The White Owl Cottage truly provides a wonderful retreat, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful and comfortable stay in Newport.
We loved this home, which was perfect for our family ski weekend at Jay Peak (about 30 mins away). The layout and views of the lake, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, the sunrise and sunset were amazing and everyone loved the coffee bar. Paige was very responsive in communicating check in / out instructions and responding to questions. The only complaints we had were that the 10 am check out seemed a bit early, there were a few areas we would have appreciated being cleaner and the beds were a bit too firm for our taste, but recognize that everyone has different preferences. We would definitely stay here again.
We get together once a year to get the babies together and the guys go golf. This house was perfect for 6 adults and two children. Good size yard for kids to run around and the view of the lake is fantastic
We rented Paige’s cottage as our home away from home while in town for a basketball tournament; the house had everything we needed and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Not to mention, Paige was super responsive and accommodating. We would come back in a heartbeat!
