About this property
Cozy 2-bedroom stone cottage with large garden
Our cozy two-bedroom cottage is in a private and secluded garden setting, but with easy access to local attractions in nearby towns of Kilkenny and Waterford. The guest cottage is part of a farmhouse complex that has been carefully restored with hand-crafted woodwork and natural stone throughout. It is clean and comfortable.
The cottage contains two double bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, a sitting room and one bathroom. The farm buildings surround a courtyard which features a landscaped patio with flower garden. There is also a large open, walled garden with lawn that is a great play area for kids and pets. The cottage has its own driveway and parking. There is a small patio outside the sitting room. The cottage has a small fireplace and central heating. All bed clothes and towels are included. A laundry room with washing machine and dryer is in an adjacent building.
This stone cottage is the Guest Cottage to Gorman's Cottage. It can be rented separately or together with the main house for larger groups (see #1021234).
The cottage is situated in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland. It is an ideal location for a quiet family holiday, but there are many attractions within a short drive, including the cities of Kilkenny, Waterford, and the picturesque towns and villages spread throughout the beautiful Kilkenny countryside. This is a great area for golfing, fishing, cycling, hill walking and exploring the many medieval castles, abbeys and churches dotting the countryside. South Kilkenny is also famous for its many designers and craft workshops including Kilkenny Design Center, Nicholas Mosse Pottery, Jerpoint and Duiske Glass makers, amongst many others. The City of Kilkenny is an exciting destination with a well-preserved medieval core focused on the stunning Kilkenny Castle and Gardens. It has an active arts scene with a range of galleries, studios, museums, and historic attractions. It is a great place to eat, drink, shop and explore. Kilkenny hosts several festivals over the summer months including the Kilkenny Arts Festival in August and the Cat’s Laugh comedy festival in June. The Viking city of Waterford, a short 30-minute drive away by motorway, is also a lively spot with plenty to do and see.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely old cosy cottage. It was perfectly located between Kilkenny and Waterford. We were really surprised by the beautiful gardens and the lovely flowers around the property.
We had a pleasant stay in the cottage with our little son. Everything is at its place. Very beautiful garden and good traffic connection near to the motorway! Nice communication with the owners! We can highly recommend the property!

If you are looking for a relaxing break. This is the place. The cottage is rural with the most beautiful garden to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and alfresco dining.
The internet is great for working at home.
My dogs were welcomed.
There is everything you.need here for your relaxing break.
Highly recommended.
Great location of the property, rural, you really feel as though you are in the Irish countryside, amongst rolling hills, working farms and small villages. The property is a traditional stone building and it suited our needs with plenty of space in and around the property, the host where helpful and there where good instructions and information on most aspects of living in the cottage and the surrounding area. The cleanliness of he property was disappointing, it does appear that it is not cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis, and there are some area's of maintenance that need attention, but overall we really enjoyed our stay.
The garden at the cottage was glorious. Beautifully landscaped and well looked after. The area was also perfect for a real rest and relaxing break.
The cottage was very sympathetically restored and the bedrooms with the lovely wooden floors and windows were a joy.
Downstairs was fine but the tiled floors could have been warmed up a good deal by the addition of a couple of floor rugs or mats to give it a cosy feel.

Great potential but let down by standard of cleaning
When we arrived we thought the property was beautiful from the outside and the garden was well maintained. The instructions we received were to look for the black gate with the cattle grid - however after parking there, we then needed to go back out and in through the blue gate which was where the parking for the guest house actually was. A small detail, but just wanted to mention it. There was a strange smell when we entered the house - I though it was just the age of the building but we could also hear a hissing noise and about 10 minutes later discovered that one of the gas rings on the cooker was partially on and gas had been leaking for a period of time. So that could have been really dangerous, but was resolved by opening all the doors and windows. We were then left with just the musty old house smell, which is to be expected of a property of that age. We then discovered that one of the beds only had a mattress protector - no sheet, which wasn't ideal. The next day we discovered a new sheet in the cupboard so we used that - no idea why it wasn't made up correctly in the first place? My main issue was the lack of cleanliness - given that we ourselves were charged a 100 euro cleaning fee as part of the rental cost - i assume the previous tenants were as well, so I'd love to know what this was actually spent on? There were dead flies and spiders everywhere. Opening the blind on the window above the bed caused a rain storm of dead flies and bits of flies which landed on the bed. There were clumps of animal hair under the beds and downstairs. I also noticed used personal care items in the bathroom bin, a used facecloth in the shower, mould on one of the bedroom walls (very dangerous for people with breathing issues), a very dirty looking cushion and throw on the sofa. Overall, its an old property and really needs a good clean between rentals and a deeper clean every month. Dust away the cobwebs, brush up the dead flies, wash the floors, put some dehumidifier pots there to soak up the damp and some nice smelly things in to make the place more inviting. Not a property you could chill and relax in, just about good enough for somewhere to sleep when you're out and about. We definitely deserve better and will be more fussy the next time we book a holiday.
Cosy old cottage nestled in countryside. Convenient to Kilkenny and Thomastown. Lovely woodland walks a 5 minute drive away, and 40 minutes to Waterford Greenway at Kilmeadan. Helpful host.
We had an awesome stay at Sinead and Mick's lovely place! It is in a very quiet local, is wonderfully put together and had everything that one would need for a comfortable stay, utilizing the rental as a hub for exploring the surrounding countryside. We would definitely recommend it to others who want a quiet and comfortable place from which to explore Ireland.
We really enjoyed our time at this property. It is nestled among the farms and was great to be out of the city and yet not far from the M8 between Kilkenny and Waterford. If you want to get away and relax, this is a lovely place. One of the best parts are the skylights above the beds where you can look up and see the stars which were shining the three nights we were there.
Mick and Sinead's home was absolutely lovely. Mick was so kind, generous and welcoming, that we immediately settled right in and allowed the peace of his home to seep into our souls. It was wonderful to stay in a place so deeply rooted in history, so mindfully restored, and so quiet yet easily accessible to both Kilkenny and Waterford. We hope to return one day.
