About this property

Half Okra Inn — Lovely, Historic, Streetcar in Sight, Restaurants & Bars Nearby

  • Welcome to The Okra Inn!

    The Okra Inn Iberville puts you in the middle of one of the city's most walkable neighborhoods. Step onto the front porch and you'll already be within a block of some of our favorite restaurants, bars, and bakeries, including Angelo Brocato's gelateria, Revel, Venezia, Taqueria Guerrero, and the Michelin-starred Zasu. But you'll also be able to see the Canal Street streetcar, which carries you straight to the French Quarter 24 hours a day when you're ready to explore farther.

    THE SPACE

    The Okra Inn is a historic, renovated camelback house in the lively Mid City area on the Canal Streetcar line. The Inn features 11 foot ceilings throughout, original pocket doors, beautiful crown molding, a living room, dining room, one full bathroom and one half bathroom, a front porch, back balcony, back patio and our own blend of artsy charm. The house contains a kitchen stocked with cooking basics.

    The house is a duplex (New Orleanians say "double", and this listing is for one side of the duplex. All of the indoor spaces mentioned in this listing are private to your group; you will have keys to your front door and will not share indoor space with anyone. Please note however that there may be another group renting the other half of the house and you may see them on the porches or back patio, and you may hear muffled voices through the walls.

    The decor strives to be a cozy, funky version of classic New Orleans, with kitsch alongside original art, elegance alongside a feeling of homey comfort. We want the house to be clean and pleasant, but without a sense that guests should be afraid to touch anything.

    Your space includes:
    * Three bedrooms
    * Two upstairs bedrooms have queen size beds
    * One downstairs bedroom has two twin size beds
    * One full bathroom and one half bath
    * Full kitchen
    * Full size gas stove/oven
    * Full size fridge
    * Coffee maker
    * Toaster
    * Pots, pans, utensils, glassware, etc.
    * Living room
    * Dining room
    * Closets in each bedroom
    * Ceiling fans
    * 11 foot ceilings and wood floors
    * Wireless Internet
    * Central AC
    * Roku Television
    * Back balcony
    * Back patio
    * Front porch

    THE NEIGHBORHOOD

    Mid-City is one of New Orleans' most lively and eclectic neighborhoods, and a great home base for exploring the city. We're just a short walk from the streetcar, which makes getting to the French Quarter and Central Business District easy. Uptown, Tremé, the Lakefront, and other neighborhoods are also within easy reach.

    And there's plenty to explore right here. Within about 1.5 miles you'll find dozens of locally owned restaurants and bars, including Parkway Bakery & Tavern, multiple music venues and coffee shops, City Park, the New Orleans Museum of Art and Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Bayou St. John, Café du Monde, Angelo Brocato's, grocery stores and specialty markets, kayak and paddle boat rentals, swimming pools, and some of New Orleans' famous above-ground cemeteries.

    Come hungry, curious, and ready to explore. Y'all are going to love Mid-City!

    PARKING

    We do not have off street parking at the house. Street parking is available and generally very easy to find for free. It also includes a parking lot across the street with 15ish spots open to the public for free.
    * We are around the corner from several restaurants, so parking from 6-8 on weekends is a little harder. But even then, you should expect to find a space within a block or two of the house.

    GETTING AROUND

    We are located one block from a major streetcar stop, which is then a 15 minute ride to The French Quarter and Central Business District. We are a 5 minute ride to City Park (or 15 minute walk), and a 5 minute ride to New Orleans' famous above ground cemeteries. Blue Bikes offers bicycle-sharing that allows for pickup and drop-off throughout the city. Uber and Lyft operate in New Orleans as well as traditional taxis. And if you really want the fun way to get around, you can always hire a party bus...

    HOUSE RULES AND IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE BOOKING

    We do allow pets at our discretion. However, please inquire before booking if you are planning to bring a pet.

    Please inquire before booking if your group is a bachelor(ette) party. While we are happy to host these groups, we ask that they do not have any party events in the house, and have some guidelines around decorations.

    Firearms are strictly prohibited. Active duty military and law enforcement officers may contact us at the time of booking regarding possible exceptions to this policy. Any exceptions will be granted at our sole discretion.

    Smoking is not allowed in the house, but is allowed on front and back porches.

    RESPECTING OTHER GUESTS

    We ask that guests be considerate of others by keeping noise to a reasonable level inside the house. Normal conversation and television at a moderate volume are generally not a problem for guests on the other side, but loud music and shouting can be disruptive.

    We also have noise monitors installed on the property to comply with the City of New Orleans short-term rental hosting requirements.

    RESPECTING NEIGHBORS

    We do feel strongly about being respectful neighbors. We ask that guests watch noise levels outside of the home after 11pm. This is especially important in the back patio/balcony area, which is close to neighbor's bedrooms.

    We do not allow guests to use grills or other open flames, for safety reasons.

    Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.
