"The cottage was gorgeous, in a lovely quiet location and parking at the back. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. We only stayed a night but it had almost everything you'd need for a stay. A bit of soap in the bathroom and teatowel/towel and washing up liquid in the kitchen with some milk for a cuppa when you arrive would have made it perfect. "Overall not bad. The hotel itself is old and in need of some tlc. We reported some minor maintenance issues at check out. The breakfast food was okay, your usual fried breakfast, cereal, yoghurt and on Sunday morning there was croissants. The entertainment was however surprisingly impressive, each night from 6-late there was bingo, quiz, children's entertainment and live artists. There are several bars within the hotel so you can choose to sit in the lively area or in a quieter space. The views from this hotel are spectacular (for Scarborough). You can sit out on the terrace with a drink and watch the sun set if you choose. The rooms were generally clean, no complaints, I've stayed in worse. There's no Aircon but each room has a fan and the windows open. I mostly love that this hotel is dog friendly, we usually opt for a caravan so our dog can join us so this was a nice change, however dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant but there is a secure green out front for toileting. The location is excellent pub, beaches, shops and restaurants on the doorstep. Staff were friendly and helpful always."

"Absolutely vile and not fit for a hotel! First time in my whole life I have ever walked out of a ‘hotel’ We walked in went to our room and husband had a panic attack. Snot and body fluids on walls sheets all marked. Urine or sweat stains all over mattress protector. It stunk to high heavens and was disgustingly. We had also prepaid for breakfast which they have refused to refund us. We then had to walk about hill looking for another hotel and were out of pocket. Please do not book and beware as hotel told us our refund lay with Expedia however Expedia told us it lay with the hotel. So we have unable to get our money back from both the hotel and Expedia and couldn’t even get a refund on the next day breakfast. So avoid at all costs. We ended up staying at the Hilton next to train station which was a million times better but please do not waste your money here or risk your health. Avoid at all costs"

The Royal Hotel

"We do love this hotel but this time we had a guest join us in the bar for a drink. He uses a disabled scooter; we realised how poor the hotel is for disabled guests - the lift was broken from outside so we had to fiddle ourselves to fix it. The disabled toilet is upstairs but the lifts said no scooters allowed. This is obviously a real problem for disabled guests. Honestly, lovely hotel, great staff but needs a few tweaks."
