Mykonos Holidays

The perfect mix of tradition and modernity, as well as natural beauty and cosmopolitan life, make this island a top holiday destination for all ages. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is possibly the most popular destination out of all of the Greek islands. The combination of golden beaches, traditional cuisine, hot summers and cosmopolitan nightlife proves irresistible for thousands of visitors each year.

Many of the island’s famed nightclubs are to be found along Paradise Beach on the south coast. Here, you’re likely to find top international DJs playing sets for hundreds of revellers. Smaller bars are clustered in the centre of Mykonos Town, where you’ll find a heady mix of pumping music and perfect cocktails.

Away from the town centre, there are many beautiful locations that are ideal for families. One of the most popular is Ornos Bay, just 3.5 kilometres from Mykonos Town. The sandy beach leads into calm waters, sheltered from the open sea, providing ideal swimming conditions. Scuba diving and boating are also popular. Back from the beach, the small, quiet village of Ornos offers a choice of hotels and tavernas.

There is also a lot more to Mykonos than parties and beaches. This island has a long history and rich culture. Discover some of the island’s history with a visit to the distinctive Windmills of Mykonos that stands on the hilltop overlooking Mykonos Town. Constructed over 550 years ago, they were used to mill wheat right up until the mid-20th century. Also, the village of Ano Mera, 8 kilometres from Mykonos Town, has many fascinating historical sites, including a 16th-century cloister, the Monastery of Paleokastro and the remains of a Byzantine castle.

It’s easy to travel around the island on foot or by taxi, and there is a well-run bus network. Alternatively, you can hire a car, scooter or bicycle from one of the many companies in the town.

Mykonos attracts the largest crowds in July and August, when the weather is especially hot and dry. However, if you’re looking for a quieter break, visit in May or June when the weather is warm and the beaches are less crowded.

The international airport is served by many European airlines, or you can reach the island by ferry from the Greek mainland.
