About this property
Lovely Mount Storm Waterfront Lake House - pet friendly, child friendly retreat
Cedar Chalet House on Mount Storm lake. 3 bedroom/2 bath (with sleeper sofa in loft) with deck, fire pit, outdoor dog pen, boat ramp. and private dock. Many amenities available for a short or long-term rental. On-site property manager lives next door.

Mount Storm lake is a 1200 acre lake that is heated by a Dominion Power plant. Summer water temperatures are normally in the 80-90s making for relaxing swimming and boating. Convenient to highway 48, and approximately three hours to DC. Just south of the Western edge of Maryland and approximately 2-2.5 hours from Pittsburgh.
We have a private boat ramp and dock on the property with gorgeous views of the lake. Enjoy swimming in the warm water, resting in the shade, or even reading a book from our home library while lounging in the hammock.
If you enjoy fishing, you can catch numerous types of fish, including largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as numerous channel catfish. Hybid striped bass and walleye are also present. Fishing licenses are required and available online or at local Walmart stores (approx. 30-45 minute drive). The local Liberty gas station / convenience mart sells bait (3 miles/5 minute drive). The Mount Storm Lake Fishing Guide by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) provides topographical features of the area as well as depths for the lake. I tried to provide a link, but VRBO deleted it, so you will have to google it.
If you want to check out one of the larger fish taken from this lake in the last few years, search for the headline: "WV's Mount Storm lake becoming a hotspot for striper fishing" from a 15 December 2018 article at the WV Gazette-Mail online.
For food and other essentials, there is a grocery store (Shop and Save) in Davis, WV that is 16 miles away (approx. 21 minute drive), several grocery stores (Shop and Save, Food Lion, and Walmart) in Moorefield, WV that are 30 miles away (approx. 33 minute drive), and a Walmart and other grocery stores in Keyser, WV that are 24 miles away (approx. 30 minute drive). There are also stores in Oakland, MD and Petersburg, WV that have similar drive times and distances.
In addition, there is a Liberty gas/convenience store 3 miles away (5 minute drive) with ample basic items and freshly baked pizza, pepperoni rolls, sandwiches, and other fast food items.
You may love the lake so much that you don't want to venture out much during your stay. But if you do, some of the gorgeous locations you can visit within a 25-45 minute drive include hiking and other nature activities at Blackwater Falls State Park, horseback riding with Mountain Trail Rides, Timberline Four-seasons Resort and Canaan Valley Resort Golf and Ski Area, hiking and sightseeing at Dolly Sods Wilderness and lots of outdoor activities at Seneca Rocks.
In addition, the towns of Davis, WV and Thomas, WV, located within a 20-25 minute drive from the house have numerous attractions, including restaurants, breweries, ice cream shops, music venues, art galleries, antique stores, and more.
We love this area and enjoy being here year-round. Whether it is snow-tubing in winter, hiking in spring, playing in the water in summer, or enjoying the fall foliage in fall, there are plenty of things to do and see here!
This is truly a special place and we hope that you find it to be as wild and wonderful as we do. In fact, we think it's 'almost heaven.'

This is our third year staying here! We absolutely love being right on the water. We hike all day then come back to a relaxing bonfire and beautiful views! Denny and Dorothy are excellent hosts, quick to respond, friendly and available if you need anything.
This is our second stay at this property and we are very comfortable and relaxed there. It has all the little things we need for a weekend. It’s warm and cozy - we love it. Can’t wait to be back.
Great little property on the lake. Love that its dog friendly. Our family had a great time and would stay here again in a heartbeat! My eldest daughter, age 5, caught her first fish off the dock!
Host was awesome and let us check in early, offered to get the kayaks out since the weather was so nice. House is great, super cozy! Beds are very comfortable. Gorgeous view, my 5 year old son loved fishing off the dock and cant wait to go back!
This is our second stay here and already can’t wait to go back!! It’s perfect for our family! Dog friendly and close to Davis, Thomas, and Dolly Sods! The owners are very nice and quick to respond!
Normally I stay at a hotel for work. I chose this place because there weren’t many hotels around and I’m glad I did. The house had everything I needed and the host was very kind. It is on a beautiful lake as well.
Nice cabin by the lake and felt like you were secluded. We stayed in February but looks like it would be fun during the summer and all the water activities. House was good and worked well for our group of 2 couples.
Incredibly located spot for lake & outdoor getaways. Well stocked & comfortable space worked perfectly for our family. The loft bedroom upstairs was surprisingly quiet too even with 2 small kids roaming downstairs. You can’t be the view of the lake!!
The house and area very nice and it was relaxing and going down to the black water falls was beautiful. We had a great time excluding the sound of the energy plant
Stayed at this rental home for 5 nights with my husband, our 2 boys, my parents, and my grandmother. There was plenty of space for all of us without being crowded. The home is located right on the lake, and the use of kayaks and life vests was a huge plus. Love that it was pet friendly too as we were able to take our dogs. Overall it was a great trip, and we look forward to planning another stay soon.
The lakehouse met all of our expectations and then some. Having the warmed water to swim in allowed everyone to enjoy getting in to have some fun. Planning next year already!
We had a great stay at the cabin, the lake was the perfect space for the kids to fish, swim, and for us adults to sun bathe.
The house was clean, well supplied, air conditioning in perfect condition, all was great!
This is the second time we stay here and will plan it again in the future!
Thanks Dolly and family ☺️
This cabin made for a perfect short getaway for me and my wife! The view of the lake is wonderful, and we were there after a snowfall which added to the atmosphere. The cabin was a great space to just cozy up and relax for a few days. The pen attached to the house gave our dog a chance to run around, and it was wonderful being able to bring him along with us.
We enjoyed the cabin by the lake. It was warm and cozy and we appreciate the help digging out from the overnight snow. We enjoyed the days skiing and the cabin perfectly meet the needs of my sister and my families, 4 adults and 2 kids. Thanks!
This Lakehouse was perfect for a long, snowy weekend. It was clean, comfortable, had everything we needed, had a beautiful view of the lake. The roads were well plowed despite the tremendous snow. The hosts were helpful and communicative. The Internet was good enough for streaming and having people on their phones. It was very easy to keep the house neat while we were there - there isn’t a bunch of unnecessary clutter. We will definitely be back for another stay.
We had a very nice stay at the lake house. The water being heated by the power plant made swimming great. The house was well stocked with everything. Denny and Dolly are great hosts. Would definitely come back. Thanks
We had a great time. Unfortunately weather was cold and we couldn’t be outside as much as we wanted. However we made the best of it with the fun board games provided and cooked some delicious meals in the kitchen that was well stocked for cooking! Overall had a blast and the house was perfect for all of us to be together.
We had a great time at the lake house. The house is clean and well equipped with all essentials. We went to Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods and chair lift at Canaan Resort…..beautiful fall foliage. We had breakfast every morning looking at the lake. We ate out twice Sirianni’s Cafe & Wicked Widerneds Pub…good food & service. Goodbye West Virginia! The Hacker’s From NJ!
