About this property
Lakeside Stone Cottage on 6 acres on Hammond--pet friendly
. Peaceful Lakeside Home on 6 acres. This is the place you are looking for--once you come, no other rental will do. Hammond pond is a seasonal private lake that no motorized boats are allowed on. PLEASE NOTE the lake starts being drained in early July. It typically takes about 5 weeks to become unswimmable. If the snow melt is high and the ditch is continuing to fill the lake the lake should stay relatively full until 5 weeks after the ditch stops bringing the snow melt. THIS IS STILL A FABULOUS PEACEFUL PLACE. Watch the wild geese raise their young or the deer graze in the meadow.
Our home has a fully stocked Granite kitchen, Tempurpedic mattress in master, and stone fireplace (gas). This place has it all--views, trees, meadows, wildlife, walking trails (dirt road), seasonal lake for kayaking or canoes. Quaint newer home with incredible charm-- BBQ, covered porch.
Hammond pond is a seasonal 70 acre lake that attracts wildlife and local fishermen. Nestled between Mount Shasta and Black Butte to the east and the 'Eddys' to the west, abundant day hike opportunities exist. If you are not up to climbing the 14,000 ft Mount Shasta, the Pacific Crest Trail offers many easier day hikes--one of my favorites is from the top of Stewart Springs road to Deadfall Lakes--an easy, relatively flat 4 mile (one way), spectacularly beautiful hike. The 'Park's Creek' trailhead is about 30 minutes from the house.
Another gem is the McCloud Falls trail--make sure you don't miss the Middle Falls! McCloud is about 15 miles east of Mt Shasta City on Highway 89. The Falls are a few miles east of McCloud at the 'Fowler's' turnoff.
There is also a maze of dirt roads to explore that connect the homes and properties of 'Hammond Ranch'. Besides the Lake, many creeks flow through the Ranch--the Shasta River (just a stream at this point), Dale Creek and Eddy Creek. Following Dale Creek road past the house to Dale Creek, crossing Dale Creek (you have to wade) and then on to Eddy Creek offers a wonderful 8 mile round trip. Hike or mountain bike along a minimally travelled, relatively flat, bumpy dirt road. Wildflowers abound and the road winds along a hillside that offers dramatic views of Mount Shasta and the valley. You may take quads along the roads--but please observe the 15 mph speed limit on the private roads.
Whether you use our home as a base camp or a place to unwind, you will find that you don't want to leave the spell that it casts over you. When I have guests the most common thing I hear in the morning is 'How do you leave this place to go to work?' This is not just a place to stay--it is a destination!

Lovely little cabin just a few minutes outside of the charming (if tourist oriented) town of Weed, CA. Perfect place to stay if you want something out of the way, with lots of outdoor activities, and just enough nearby convenience to stay relaxed.
The location of this cottage is very scenic and peaceful. The seasonal lake had dried up by the time of our our late September/early October stay, but we enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife in the resulting meadow. Everything in the kitchen worked well, and the bed was very comfortable. We would definitely rent again.
We had a wonderful visit! The small lake was gorgeous, the beds were comfortable, house was clean. We used the fire pit daily, found loads of little frogs by the water, enjoyed peace and tranquility. Was a great stay, highly recommend!!!!
It was a great property. We all enjoyed our stay. A great place for family and dogs. The fishing was great and all of the wildlife. We would definitely come there again.
We had a great stay! The place was clean, well stocked and in a quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed watching the wildlife by the lake each day. Access to hiking and nearby lakes!
Cozy, comfortably appointed 2B home. Ideal for a small family getaway. Seasonal lake against a picturesque backdrop makes this place even more compelling. The host is extremely responsive making this spot a sure repeat
Cute cabin tucked amongst the trees with loads of outdoor space. Well appointed, comfy beds and spacious enough for our party of four. We enjoyed the canoe and trails during the day, and games, cooking and the Olympics in the evening.
Lovely cottage with all amenities, with a beautiful view of (now dry in November) lake, which looks like a golden meadow. Wonderful kitchen, comfy beds, peaceful location with no observable neighbors and sense of quiet and solitude, but only a few minutes to Mt. Shasta. Perfect for 4 adults.
The remotely located stone cottage is private and quiet with lots of wildlife and hiking trails. The interior is luxuriously furnished with every amenity including comfortable beds and a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the view from the deck even though the lake is mostly dry this time of year.
The house was so quaint and we had a wonderful, relaxing stay. Our dog also had a great time. Hope to return when the weather is cooler. Thank you so much!
We loved the idyllic beauty of the property and its surrounds. And we loved how thoughtfully constructed the cottage —how in its tasteful shades and intricate stonework and crafted fir cabinets and granite surfaces— it mirrored the beauty of the natural world. Wonderful!
Really nice house at the lake (reservoir) surrounded by woods. Very peaceful and quiet. The lake was dry in October, but the owners were upfront about it. The view from the bedroom in the morning is beautiful even without the water.
Beautiful home! Extremely quiet and cozy. Kitchen is beautiful and great view while cooking. Comfortable king bed and great main bath with walk-in shower. Lots of room! We hope to go back! Great helpful communication with the owner.
This was a great house for our family of four (and our dog). The views of Mt Shasta and Mt Eddy from the property are amazing...the walk around the reservoir is beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked with coffee/tea, pots/pans, utensils and small appliances (blender, coffee grinder, toaster, etc.) Beds are comfortable. We'd stay again for sure.
This is a beautiful well maintained home and property. We had a deer that visited us every evening grazing in the yard while we sat on the back porch and enjoyed the view. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and the thoughtful touches from the owner. Highly recommend!!!!
Fantastic property. Very quiet and restful. A great spot to recharge your batteries. This place is good for your soul. Looking forward to another visit and exploring the Shasta/Klamath National forest. Be sure to bring your binoculars to watch the waterfowl on the pond.
We had an amazing time on the lake. Was perfect for a nice and quiet getaway. The property is beautiful and we spent a lot of time on the water in the canoe. Getting to town is a 15mm drive so make sure you pick up items you need before you stay at the house. Cell service was excellent for T mobile. Thank you!
Lovely cottage with a fabulous kitchen, gas fireplace and attached garage. Cute squirrel visitor at the front door. Nice covered porch for enjoying tea/coffee in the morning and watching the birds. Spectacular rainbow viewing. Deep soaking tub in the master bath.
We really enjoyed this retreat.
It was exceptionally clean & very well thought out and private. Sitting out on the deck over looking the seasonal lake, while listening to the songs of the waterfowl & Steelers Jays…
And watching the ducks and geese with those little fluff ball babies waddle up to
the grass area of the yard was a real treat..
We never once clicked on the TV as the view has everything we needed.
Very comfortable & peaceful indeed.
