Secluded Creekside Cabin in Morganton near Linville Gorge - hot tub
Enjoy peaceful creekside solitude at Roho's Cabin - named for the funniest man to ever live in Burke County, NC - Roho, M.D., stand up comedian (and my dad).
Tucked down the side of the mountain on 3.43 acres with private access to Upper Creek, relax and unwind in our family cabin then hit one of the many nearby hiking trails. Only 7 miles to the Brown Mountain OHV trails (34 miles of off roading trails) and Brown Mountain Beach Resort, 9 miles to Upper Creek Falls, 12 miles to Wilson’s Creek, 13.5 miles to Hawksbill Mountain, 17 miles to Linville Falls, 18 miles to Table Rock, 24 miles to Grandfather Mountain.
There’s plenty to do in Morganton (20 minutes to downtown) and Lenoir (25 minutes away). Or take a day trip to Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Boone, Black Mountain, or Asheville - all less than an hour drive.
Neighbors across the creek are cows and donkeys; Daniel Boone Campground neighbors to the North. Steele Creek Park is across 181.
Our Goodland wood burning (soaking) hot tub nestled high under the rocks with a fantastic view of the creek and valley is truly an epic experience, but it is one you must WORK for. The soaking (no jets) hot tub is sanitized and left empty after each stay. You will need to rinse it, fill it with fresh water (pumped from the creek), and then heat the water with a wood fire (unless you prefer a cold plunge!). The process takes from 2.5-5 hours, but the reward is well worth it. It is a unique experience that requires slowing down to enjoy the ritual of building the fire, heating the water and enjoying a chemical free, environmentally friendly soak. Goodland calls it the pursuit of pause - and we highly recommend it.
Up to two dogs allowed with $100 pet fee, subject to approval at time of booking. Please provide the breed and size of your dog(s) when requesting to book and you will be asked to agree to some basic rules to keep your furry friends and Roho's Cabin safe and cozy.
Driveway is narrow and steep - front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive recommended. Drive slowly (and bravely) and you’ll be fine. Or you can park at the upper parking area and take the stairs down the mountain. Be sure to visit the rock formation using the other set of stairs. All built by Roho when the cabin was his home.
Winter weather warning: We rarely have ice or snow at the elevation of Roho’s Cabin (it occurs much more frequently about 10 more miles up the mountain), so it is unlikely to occur during your stay. However- the driveway down to Roho’s Cabin is not drivable if there is snow or ice. The upper portion of the driveway to the upper parking area would likely be drivable in light snow or ice - it is gravel and not as steep, but it will not be scraped/cleared. Parking in the upper parking area means taking the steps (nearly 100 steps) down the mountain to Roho’s Cabin (and back up!) - or walking down the driveway. Please keep this in mind for visits in the winter. If you realize there will be winter weather during your booked days and would like to cancel reschedule, we are happy to accommodate. We don’t want anyone to feel unsafe.

The cabin was in a perfect location, clean, and had everything we needed and more! The owner even left snacks, things to make s’mores, and hot tub accessories. We had an amazing stay!
Just what we were looking for. We came for the Goodland hot tub, which was easy to use and ideally situated, but were pleasantly surprised to find a cabin where we felt at home. The host's attention to detail was much appreciated. The location downhill from some beautiful hiking and scenery was also a gift.
Upon arriving, I was immediately sad about having to leave. This place was so cozy and cute, and we thoroughly enjoyed the soaking tub. It was actually so nice to take the time to build and tend the fire to get the water juuuust right. Kitchen had everything we needed; I always bring some basics but was happy to find extra seasonings for cooking there. And Artico (our dog) was thrilled to see there were some treats for him, too. April was super responsive and check-in and check-out were a breeze.
Delightful quiet time with plenty of options for surround activities in town and hiking. Smaller rental but the owners make great use of the layout. The view from the hot tub at night is breath taking. Hot tub, 30 degree night, and beautiful stars to look at. Cant say enough about this view.
My lovely wife and I took the week off to stay at Roho's. This is the place to get away from the work stress and enjoy the country fresh air. The Cabin was clean and well outfitted with modern amenities.Very cozy! I love the Rooster motif!
Our Host April responded right away when i had questions.
We really enjoyed watching the farm animals across the field. The Donkeys are a real hoot. The Cabin is dog friendly and our Chihuahuas had the time of their lives.
We are senior citizens. The Wife is retired and I have a couple years to go. The steps to the creek are well placed to make it easy for seniors to hit the creek with just a little effort. The creek has lots of life in it. Unfortunately I didn't catch the big trout i saw running the rocks. Better luck next time:-) Thank you April! Hope to visit again. M.A.
My husband and I stayed at Roho’s Cabin for about a week. We were so happy with the experience. I don’t think the listing pictures do justice to what a lovely cabin and surrounding area this property is!
The location is private and feels remote, but has good access to surrounding hiking and necessities. You can really feel tucked away from the world here.
The cabin is stocked with so many nice touches! From coffee and snacks (s’mores ingredients!) to towels, dog supplies, and well placed extras like charging stations. Very thoughtfully appointed- including nice toiletries!
The cabin was clean and very cute! The wood burning hot tub was so wonderful. There were great, clear instructions for use. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
We loved the creek and sipping coffee in the chairs out in the back of the cabin. There were tubes, corn hole boards and plenty of other things to keep entertained with.
April was a lovely host. She was communicative and easy to reach if needed. The instructions for the cabin were helpful and clear, without being overbearing :)
We definitely intend to return for another trip.
I celebrated my 52nd birthday at Roho's cabin and I honestly couldn't have found a more perfect place to relax and unwind. The host was accommodating. The wood burning hot tub and relaxing sounds of the creek and nature was so peaceful. We will definitely be back!
The Cabin was so cozy and welcoming. The Creek view and access was wonderful and the extra details from the host like snacks, coffee and water were a bonus. Endless nearby hiking and things to do and see. Will definitely stay here again.
When we first arrived, we felt at peace with the space and knew we would love staying here. We came to Roho's Cabin to attend a nearby wedding at Brown Mountain River Resort. The cabin was a very comfortable and peaceful place to start the days. While hiking around the nearby trails and climbing all the steps, we were intrigued with the history of this cabin and land.
April is an excellent host, ensuring the unit is properly clean and prepared for guests. She also remained readily available for any needs and offered local event suggestions.
Thank you for sharing Roho's Cabin! We can't wait to return!
My wife and I stayed at Roho's Cabin for our honeymoon. We found that the location was exactly as described, and better than expected! I did manage to get us lost on the way in because GPS was not accurate and I didn't pay attention. Rechecking the instructions from the host quickly got us back on track though. Once we reached the cabin we found a cozy little place that we both felt right at home in. The river and surrounding woods isolate the area nicely and provide absolutely beautiful morning views. The host communicated with us perfectly and we had no issues at any point in our stay. The only criticism I would offer is to make the driveway a little bit more visible from 181. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Roho's Cabin to anyone who wants to step back from the rest of the world for a few days! We will certainly be adding it to our list of places to visit again!
