"Warm welcome and checking in, excellent evening meal and breakfast. Staff were wonderful. To rate at excellent we would if the bed was better, a poor quality matress topper, hard pillows and we could feel the hard mattress. The room was a hard climb into the eaves. Will book a room on the main floor for next stay there. Buxton is a beatiful place and we only stayed for one night on this occasion."

"We stayed for 1 night whilst in Buxton to see a show at The Opera House. Our usual hotel was fully booked so though we’d try The Old Hall. The accommodation areas are bordering on dilapidated. Characterful no longer applies. We spoke to other guests and they found the same with one even without a working shower. Major staff shortage. The breakfast area was ok but 5 members of staff had rung in sick ( including the manager, which suggests low morale ) so the food etc was in short supply. The 2 on duty did the best they could but woefully understaffed. Overall, we wouldn’t stay again."

"Pros: parking and good central location. Well priced. Cons: tired and dated rooms. Too warm despite turning the thermostat right down. Helped by opening window but loud road noise so not ideal. No bottled water in the room. Got phoned by reception at 7.15 am to come to our room to access the safe and retrieve the passports of previous guests! Not the wake up call I wanted on what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend. Staff member was lovely and very apologetic and offered us free breakfast. nice gesture but not one that was of any use to us. Check out the following day - no questions asked about our stay - I had to ask who I could give feedback to. Just not very interested and no other compensation or gesture for poor stay offered. Won't be back!"

"Out of all the many UK hotels I have stayed in, this outranked them. The staff were very welcoming, informative and the room was fitted out to a high standard. Well worth the visit - evening meal - steak cooked with a good balance of flavour and breakfast really good."
